October 16, 2015:  Open Hands

Daily Berry Patch Devotions in 2015 - Day 288

Devotional Song:  … GO TO THIS LINK …  Please take the time to take in a video of Matt Papa singing, Open Hands, … declaring how all Christians would live … to give our love to others with open hands … just as Christ lived (and died) for us.

Highlight Passage:   Matthew 6:19-21 [NKJV] …
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
…  Jesus lays out how/why giving with open hearts/hands is key to laying hold of heavenly treasure.
Highlight Context – Matthew 6: 19-24 [NKJV] … USE THIS LINK  …
…  Jesus' sermon on giving as a reflection of kingdom living.

Reference Passage #1 - Luke 12: 16-21 [NKJV] … USE THIS LINK …
... Jesus' parable on living/giving …

My Journal for Today:  Today’s Our Daily Bread author, Lawrence Darmani, lays out a truth all Christians find challenging, but must live out; and that is learning to give with open hands (see attached photo). Darmani writes, … In our imperfect world, loss of material wealth is all too common—vehicles are stolen or crashed, ships sink, buildings crumble, homes are flooded, and personal belongings are stolen. This makes Jesus’ admonition not to put our trust in earthly wealth very meaningful (Matt. 6:19). Nothing lasts forever—except what our God enables us to do for others.

I think if any co-reader with me here today takes in the attached photo, the linked song by Matt Papa, and Christ’s teachings from His sermons, … your conviction will be as clear as mine … to do more in this life to give out the love of God, in time, talents, and treasures, to others with open hands, … living and giving, as the forever life with Christ will be in heaven.

My Prayer Today:  Oh, my Lord, … Help me to give more of You with open hands today. … Amen
