My Journal for Today: Today’s Our Daily Bread author, David C McCasland, used a teaching illustration with which many readers may be able to identify. And it’s being seen more and more in today’s younger generation; … and that is the reality of kids not following the values and traditions of our their parents, and falling away from the church and the faith in big numbers.

In these times we’ve seen a number of kids rebel against the faith of their parents and go away from their Christian upbringing. And then we see young people, seemingly raised with seemingly stable and faithful values doing things like carrying out mass murder in their schools. Or now we’re reading of young people turning from the Christianity of their parents to ISIS branded Islamic radicalism. And we can wonder if God is not in control; or do the values of the parents not mean anything.

But God IS in control[!] … no matter what the values being taught to the next generation. Even in Bible times there were kids turning away from the Godly values of strongly believing parents. It was that way for one of the most Godly of God’s called Prophets in the OT, Samuel, whose two sons turned sour and became wicked, anti-Godly, men (see 1st Samuel 8: 1-3, linked above). It can happen in any family, even with parents who represent God and teach His values.

But … it does not negate the truth of Psalm 100: 5 that God is good and His faithfulness, which is new every morning (see Lam. 3: 22-23) and will last through all generations, … yes, even when some, in a particular, reject God and turn away from Him.

I was one who turned from the Christianity of my parents and church to atheism when I was young. But in time God, Who obviously had His eye on me, pursued me and took me back into HIS family. So, if you have a young one or a family member who has wandered from the faith, keep praying and asking God to pursue him/her. God is good; and His faithfulness endures through and past generations.

My Prayer Today: Oh Lord, … I pray for those in my family who have turned from You. Bring them home, Lord!! Amen
