August 31, 2021 … So Many Need Jesus …

Berry Patch Devotions in 2021 - Day 243

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ... Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from Steve Green singing People Need the Lord … poignantly singing of God’s charge to share His love/grace with so many who need the light of His salvation.

==============

Highlight Passage: Isaiah 12:4 [NLT] …

In that wonderful day you will sing: “Thank the Lord! Praise His name! Tell the nations what He has done. Let them know how mighty He is!All those who believe on the Messiah are called to share His wondrous salvation with all who need His saving grace.

=============

Highlight Passage [Context]: … Isaiah 12 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK …

… Isaiah prophesies that when the Messiah comes to save His chosen ones, all those who know Him as Savior are called to praise His Name and sing His praises.

==============

Reference Passage: … Matthew 29:19-20 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK …

… Jesus “great commission” to all believers to share Jesus, making disciples and teaching them everything the Lord demands of His disciples.

Reference Passage: … Mark 16:15 [NLT] …

15 And then He told them, Go into ALL the world and preach the Good News to EVERYONE. …”

… After the resurrection, Jesus appears to His disciples and rebukes their unbelief, calling them to go and proclaim the Gospel truth about Him to EVERYONE.

Reference Passage: … Acts 1:8 [NLT] …

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere — in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

… Jesus’ charge for all who know Him as Savior to witness to His glorious salvation.

Reference Passage: … 1Timothy 4:13 [NLT] …

13 Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them.

… Paul charges Timothy (as God charges us) to share God’s word and His Gospel truth with others who need to know and follow the Lord.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, Amy Boucher Eye, AT THIS LINK … shares how Dwight Moody, the now famous 19th century evangelist, resolved shortly after his conversion to never let a day go by that he didn’t share the gospel caring to salvation with at least one person daily.

And as Steve Green sings in the linked song and the Scriptures above proclaim, … several of those from Jesus’ charge to disciples, … we, who call ourselves disciples of Christ, … are called to go forth and share the Lord’s Gospel truth of salvation for those who are willing to repent of their (our) sin and receive God’s saving grace by believing on the name of Jesus … as LORD!

And so, all of us may not be Dwight L Moody’s, feeling called to share Jesus daily with someone; but, as Christ’s disciples, we are certainly called to do all we can,… whenever we are given the opportunity, … to share Christ and His truth with a world who, as Steve Green sings, desperately need our Lord.

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh, Abba Father, thank You, King Jesus, … for giving me opportunities to share Your saving grace and the truth of Your word with others who need You … perhaps today.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... . I pray that all reading here will join me, … to go out and share Your saving grace and the truth of Your Gospel with a world who desperately need You. … Amen

August 30, 2021 … God’s Mercy and Grace …

Berry Patch Devotions in 2021 - Day 242

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ... Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from Chris Tomlin singing Let Your Mercy Reign … poignantly singing of letting God’s mercy and grace fall on us as disciples of Christ.

==============

Highlight Passage:  2Chronicles 34:3 [NLT] …

During the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, Josiah began to seek the God of his ancestor David. Then in the twelfth year he began to purify Judah and Jerusalem, destroying all the pagan shrines, the Asherah poles, and the carved idols and cast images.

Josiah, at a very young age, becomes a good King in Judah and reverses many years of ungodly reign by destroying all pagan/ungodly worship of idols.

=============

Highlight Passage [Context]: … 2Chronicles 34:1-10 [NLT] …  USE THIS LINK …

… God’s word chronicles how young King Josiah, follows God’s ways and reverses years of ungodly rule in Judah, tearing down the idol worship which had become prominent during the reign of Josiah’s grandfather and father.

==============

Reference Passage: … Lamentations 3:22-23 [NLT] …

22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. 23 Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.

… God, thru Jeremiah, declares that His mercies are always available to those who seek after God’s ways.

Reference Passage: … Ephesians 2:4-5 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK …

… Paul declares strongly to fellow Christians that our Lord is rich in mercy to those who seek His grace, … shown to us by His love, going to the cross to save us.

Reference Passage: … Hebrew 4:16 [NLT] …

16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

… God gives instructions on how we can receive God’s mercy by humbly coming to God’s throne of grace.

Reference Passage: … 1John 1:9 [NLT] …

But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from ALL wickedness.

… God, thru Paul, promises His mercy to forgive and cleanse those who humbly confess their (our) sins to a gracious God.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, James Banks, AT THIS LINK … tells of seeing a single sunflower going next to highway (see photo) and thinking that only God’s mercy and grace would allow one single flower to grow and thrive in such an unusual and hostile place. … But God’s that way with his mercy and grace, isn’t He?

Certainly the chronicle of King Josiah, in today’s ODB entry, showed how the young anointed king was like that sunflower. He became King at age 8 and was led by God’s grace and His Holy Spirit to undo many years of ungodly living in Judah under his grandfather and father, who allowed idolatrous practices and worship. But even tho Josiah was young (see highlight passage), he tore down the places of idol worship and revived and promoted the worship of the one, true God.

Today, … we see idol worship all around us, don’t we? And we know that our God hates such practices. So, like Josiah, what are we doing to show - by our words and our lives - that God can forgive our unGodly living (see 1John 1:9); and then how are we showing others how our God will shower those willing to follow Christ with His grace?

I want to be one of His sunflowers growing up in this hostile world. Don’t you?!

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh, Abba Father, thank You, King Jesus, … for giving me Your empowering grace to show forth Your mercies by living a Christlike life in this unGodly world.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... . I pray that all reading here will join me, … to declare that we follow Your ways, Lord, and we do all we can to show Your Godly ways in a world full of idols and unGodliness. … Amen

August 29, 2021 … Gospel Power …

Berry Patch Devotions in 2021 - Day 241

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ... Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from Ryan Stevenson singing The Gospel … powerfully singing of the power of “The Gospel” to save.

==============

Highlight Passage: Romans 1:15-16 [NLT] …

15 So I am eager to come to you in Rome, too, to preach the Good News. 16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.

Paul proclaims the truth of the saving power of the Gospel for any/all who believe on the Name of Christ as Lord.

=============

Highlight Passage [Context]: … Romans 1:1-7. 14-17 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK …

… Paul declares His calling and commitment to share the Kingdom gospel of salvation thru Christ’s name and His finished redeeming work on the cross.

==============

Reference Passage: … 1Corinthians 1:18 [NLT] …

18 The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.

… Paul declares the power of the Gospel to be foolish to those who reject Christ.

Reference Passage: … 1Corinthians 2:3-4 [NLT] …

I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit.

… Paul shows that it was not his preaching which saved people but in the power of God’s Spirit Who saves those who believe on Christ as Lord.

Reference Passage: … Philippians 2:9-11 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK ...

… Paul declares strongly to fellow Christians that God the Father has elevated the Name of His Son to be “LORD” and all who believe on that Name as Lord will be saved.

Reference Passage: … 1Thessalonians 1:5a [NLT] …

For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance that what we said was true. …

… Paul shows the power of the “good news,” which comes thru the power of God’s Spirit to save those who believe in Christ as Lord.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, Mart DeHaan, AT THIS LINK … writes of the “gospel” in Rome in Christ’s day … of the power of Augustus as Rome's “son of god,” to rule over the Roman Empire with the power of life/death, bringing so-called “peace” for all under Caesar’s reign.

But the Apostle Paul, having been saved by the power of the true Gospel and the love and grace of Jesus Christ, brought a new and true message of salvation to all who heard and believed Paul’s preaching (see Pauline Scriptures above)… that any/all who believed in the Name of Christ and His finished work on the cross would be saved.

I pray that all reading here believe Paul’s proclamations [above] of the saving Grace of Jesus Christ and the power of His redeeming work on the cross as we declare Him to be our LORD, and sharing His Gospel power to save with others.

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh, Abba Father, thank You, King Jesus, … for the truth and the power of Your Gospel to save me.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... . I pray that all reading here will join me, … to share our testimony of the saving power of the Gospel with others. … Amen

Berry Patch Devotions in 2021 - Day 240

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ... Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from Lauren Daigle singing Everything … poignantly singing of how Jesus is our EVERYTHING.

Really, ... Is HE???

==============

Highlight Passage: Revelation 22:12-13 [NLT] …

12 “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”

John’s revelation shows to us that Jesus is the beginning and the end of everything for us.

=============

Highlight Passage [Context]: … Revelation 22:12-21 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK …

  God reveals to us, as He did to John, that Jesus is coming (perhaps today) and He will be our everything, as He is - AND SHOULD BE - today.

==============

Reference Passage: … Psalm 73:25 [NLT] …

25 Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire You more than anything on earth.

… God, thru the Psalmist, shows us that we have nothing in this world,… in this life, … to seek but our Lord.

Reference Passage: … Acts 20:24 [NLT] …

24 But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.

… Paul shares his witness that God is his - and our - everything.

Reference Passage: … Romans 12:1-2 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK ...

… Paul warns fellow Christians to avoid letting worldly, self-satisfying, pursuits to lure us away from becoming living … self-sacrifices …, giving our all for our Lord, King Jesus.

Reference Passage: … Philippians 3:8-9 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK ...

… Paul declares strongly to fellow Christians how his relationship with Jesus had become EVERYTHING to him as Paul desired for others to see Christ in our lives.

Reference Passage: … Colossians 1:15-20 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK ...

… God’s Spirit, thru Paul’s poetic revelation that our God is supreme … our everything.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, Xochitl Dixon, AT THIS LINK … tells of her husband and son, channel surfing one night and watching the end of old movies; … and when the ODB author asked why, her husband laughingly replied, … ”Who doesn’t love a good ending.”

And the best ending of all, … for all mankind, … is found at the end of John’s Revelation (see highlight passage), where the Lord declares that He, King Jesus is the “Alpha and Omega.”. And in the truth of those words, …the words of God, Himself, … we have all we need in this life, as born-again disciples of Christ, to move forward with faith and hope.

And the Apostle Paul discovered this, as we read in his proclamations to fellow Christians (see the Pauline Scriptures above) … witnessing that Jesus had become his EVERYTHING. The question for us from this… Is King Jesus our all-in-all, … our Alpha-and-Omega, … our EVERYTHING? Because if He is not, … if other things in this world have become more important that Jesus (see Romans 12:1-2), we need to surrender those things and do all we can to make seeking and serving Jesus our Alpha and Omega - Yes, as Lauren Daigle sings in the linked song, … OUR EVERYTHING!

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh, Abba Father, thank You, King Jesus, … for giving me Your enabling grace to make You my all-in-all in life.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... . I pray that all reading here will join me, … to surrender our everything to You, King Jesus. to make You our everything. … Amen

August 27, 2021 … He’s Our Healer …

Berry Patch Devotions in 2021 - Day 239

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ... Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from Don Moen singing Jesus. You Are My Healer … poignantly singing of how Jesus is our healer … ALWAYS … when are sick or needing healing.

==============

Highlight Passage:  2 Kings 18:4 [NLT] …

4 He [Hezekiah] broke up the bronze serpent that Moses had made, because the people of Israel had been offering sacrifices to it.

King Hezekiah, recognizing God as the ultimate healer, tears down the bronze snake Moses had constructed to bring healing to God’s people earlier because the people had made an idol out of the statue.

=============

Highlight Passage [Context]: … Numbers 21:4-9, 2Kings 18:4-7 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK … God’s word in the Old Testament showing that God is our ultimate healer.

==============

Reference Passage: … Exodus 15:25-26 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK ...

… King David sings praises to our God for His healing grace.

Reference Passage: … Jeremiah 33:6 [NLT] …

“Nevertheless, the time will come when I will heal Jerusalem’s wounds and give it prosperity and true peace.

… Jeremiah speaks prophetic truth to God’s people about God healing His called ones forever in the healing that will come thru Messiah.

Reference Passage: … James 5:15-16 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK ...

… God, thru James, shows that He - and He alone - can and will provide eternal healing for the Saint who has faith and is willing to come forward and receive healing prayer from the Elders in God’s body of faithful believers.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, Jennifer Benson Schuldt, AT THIS LINK … Illustrates that we Christians, like the believers in the highlight passage from 2Kings, have a tendency to lift up - and even worship - medical science when a medicine or treatment provides wondrous and needed healing for a disease or condition, … forgetting … that it is God who ALWAYS provides all that heals in this life … or the next.

In these times of COVID 19, where we seek after medicinal agents that can ward off the virus or promote healing when the virus strikes, we should always remember that it is our Jehovah-Rapha - God Who Heals - Who is in control of all we’re going thru And, therefore, we must trust the Ultimate Healer,… our Messiah, King Jesus, … as we seek after human healing agents or methods.

So, after you, a fellow Christian, take in the linked song and have meditated on the Reference Scriptures above, let’s all stop and thank our God Who will ALWAYS provide healing - in this life or the next - for all diseases or sickness that we face in this life. As Don Moen sings, “Jesus Is Our Healer,”; and therefore, come with me today to worship Our Lord and recognize His healing grace.

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh, Abba Father, thank You, King Jesus, … for being my Healer today and always.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... . I pray that all reading here will join me, … to seek after our healing from You, Lord, our Jehovah Rapha.. … Amen

August 26, 2021 … Jesus - Our Only Way …

Berry Patch Devotions in 2021 - Day 238

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ... Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from Clay Cross, Bob Carlisle, and Bebe Winans singing I Will Follow Christ … powerfully singing of a Christians commitment to follow Christ as Lord.

He's the ONLY way ...

==============

Highlight Passage: Matthew 10:32-33 [NLT] …

32 “Everyone who acknowledges ME publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But everyone who denies ME here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven. …”

Jesus charges His disciples to go forth in His Name, proclaiming the Gospel which acknowledges Jesus, and Jesus ONLY, as King Jesus, … THE Lord, … The Messiah.

=============

Highlight Passage [Context]: … Matthew 10:1-7, 32-33 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK …

  Jesus sends His disciple to witness for Him with a message to other to acknowledge Him as Lord and to follow His ways only.

==============

Reference Passage: … Proverbs 3:5-6 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK ...

… Acknowledging and following The Messiah is the ONLY way to find the true way thru life.

Reference Passage: … Luke 9;23 [NLT] …

23 Then He said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be My follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow ME. … “

… Jesus proclaimed that His disciples must deny their (our) own way and follow ONLY His way.

Reference Passage: … John 14:6 [NLT] …

Jesus told [His disciples], “I am the way, the truth, and the life.No one can come to the Father except through me. …”

… Jesus proclaimed to Thomas and His disciples (in the upper room) that He is the ONLY way to the Father and Heaven.

Reference Passage: … 1John 2:3-4 [NLT] …

And we can be sure that we know Him if we obey His commandments. If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth.

… The true follower of Christ, as Lord, is the one who obeys and follow His commandments (i.e., in and thru His word).

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author,Dave Banon, AT THIS LINK … Illustrates the value of heeding warnings about guarding one’s wallet or purse when in crowded subways … to avoid pick-pockets.

It’s good when we get warnings that help us avoid the dangers of life; … or a “GPS” to show is the right way to go in life, … ISN”T IT? … Jesus gave those following Him, especially His disciples (see the highlight passage), a clear warning (see Luke 9:23 and John 14:6) that following Him - and His ways thru His words - was the ONLY way to follow God, the Father, or to find our way in this life, on our way home in Heaven.

And oh, how I pray that anyone reading here is heeding the linked song and has decided to follow Christ, … seeing that the ONLY way in in life is to follow our Lord in obedience to His word (see 1John 2:3-4). So, my dear one, let us take heed and seek God’s will today and His ways, by obeying His word. And in that way, … by heeding the directions of God’s “GPS” we can - AND WILL - find our way to glory.

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh, Abba Father, thank You, King Jesus, … for giving me al the warnings and directions I need in life to follow You to glory … today and tomorrow.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... . I pray that all reading here will join me, … to obey Your “GPS” in Your word, Lord, so that we can follow You to glory. . … Amen

August 25, 2021 … A Reason To Love …

Berry Patch Devotions in 2021 - Day 237

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ... Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from the Maranatha Singers singing … The Family Prayer Songr … poignantly singing of how family love should be a major Christian priority.

Sharing God's love in the family ...

==============

Highlight Passage:  1Timothy 5:3-4 [NLT] …

Take care of any widow who has no one else to care for her. But if she has children or grandchildren, their first responsibility is to show godliness at home and repay their parents by taking care of them. This is something that pleases God.

God, thru Paul, charges Christians to show Godly love to others, but especially to those within the family of God as one would within one’s own human family.

=============

Highlight Passage [Context]: …  1Timothy 5:1-8 [NLT] …  USE THIS LINK …

  God, thru Paul, shows Timothy how to show love within the family of God.

==============

Reference Passage: … Joshua 24:15 [NLT] …

15 But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

… God, thru Joshua, charges God’s people to choose whom they will serve with God’s devotional and love, … our Lord or false Gods, and Joshua commits that he and his family will serve the Lord.

Reference Passage: … Exodus 20:12 [NLT] …

12 Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you. …

… God, thru Moses, as part of God’s 10 Commandments charges God’s people to honor God by showing honor and love within the family by children showing love to their parents.

Reference Passage: … 1Corinthians 13:4-8 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK  ...

… God, thru Paul, defines the essence of Godly love.

Reference Passage: … 1John 4:19 [NLT] …

19 We love each other because He loved us first.

… God, thru John, shows that we can show Christlike love to others in God’s family because He, … Jesus,… first showed His love to those in the family of God.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, John Blasé, AT THIS LINK … tells of seeing the love of a daughter for her mother as they sat across the aisle in an airplane and later as the daughter openly, and lovingly, hugged her mother (see photo). According to the ODB author, it was a display of the kind of Godly love which God demands of Christians to show for others, especially within the family of God (see Exodus 20:12).

Certainly God’s word (see Scriptures above) demands that we Christians openly show God’s love to others, especially in our human family, … and within the “family of God.” But unfortunately that kind of love is sorely lacking, if not absent, in many families these days. And this is certainly the case in families where the love of our Lord is not expressed or shared.

And oh how I pray today that all reading here have experienced God’s love, especially within your family; but if not, most certainly in your church family. So, if you need a good and loving family hug today, I pray that you can either go get that loving hug from your mother or your father or your brother or your sister (if they are living); … but if not, … mask up of necessary in these Covid days … and go to a Christian brother or sister and get a loving hug from someone in the family of God.

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh, Abba Father, thank You, King Jesus, … for bringing me from a loving human family into Your family where I can get a loving hug any time I need Your love.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... . I pray that all reading here will join me, … to share Your love with someone in my family or Yours today. … Amen
