… The Good News of Jesus’ birth … the best news God’s people had ever heard.
My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, David McCasland, uses reality to teach about THE GOOD NEWS, … God’s best news, … the coming of His Son to save mankind. The ODB author writes: World news bombards us from the Internet, television, radio, and mobile devices. The majority seems to describe what’s wrong—crime, terrorism, war, and economic problems. Yet there are times when good news invades the darkest hours of sadness and despair—stories of unselfish acts, a medical breakthrough, or steps toward peace in war-scarred places.
It is true. The evening news each night is permeated by bad news; but the network TV newscasts always plant one “good news” story as the last thing broadcast each night, … a story, as our ODB author touts … of peace, good tidings, and good will.
And that’s what the Prophets Nahum and Isaiah were bringing to God’s people, after they had experienced God allowing them to suffer in their ill-begotten selfishness and sin. Then, … the prophets (see scripture passages above) proclaimed the coming of God’s GOOD NEWS; and that good news would come so joyously in the Person of a Babe in a manger as the Angels proclaimed to the shepherds near Bethlehem the night Jesus was born (see Luke 2:10-11.
So, now it is our charge to “Go tell it on the mountain,” as the old Christmas carol sings. And so, … let us do just that … to everyone who will hear it … maybe even during this joyous time of year.
My Prayer Today: Heavenly Father, … help me, Lord, to proclaim Your Good News to those who will hear and receive You’re saving grace in faith. ... Amen
