July 11, 2016: Life Is A "Beach"

Daily Berry Patch Devotions in 2016 - Day 193

Devotional Song:  … GO TO THIS LINK …  Please take the time to take in a You Tube video of Sara Groves singing her song … It’s Going To Be Alright, expressing the belief that we can be contented in Christ … ANY TIME!!

Highlight Passage:  Philippians 4:11 [NKJV] …
11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: …
… Contented - even in prison.
===========
Highlight Context – Philippians 4: 10-19 [NKJV] … USE THIS LINK
… Paul had learned to be contented no matter where he was or what his circumstances might be.
===========

Reference Passage #1 … Romans 8:28 [NKJV] …
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
… Yes … ALL things!!

Reference Passage #2 … 1st Peter 5:6-7 [NKJV] …
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
 … And Peter had learned the lesson too.

My Journal for Today:  … Our Daily Bread author, Marion Stroud, taught today a lesson which Paul had learned thru hardships, … even imprisonment; and that is to be contented no matter what his life circumstances might be.

Now, the attached photo depicts a place where my wife and I can always find contentment … on a beach. But life is not always a “beach,” is it? Well, maybe it is; … IF … we choose to believe what Sara Groves sings in the linked song … that it’s our attitude and belief which allow us to be contented … not our circumstances. And that’s what the Apostle Paul had discovered and about which he was writing to his friends in Philippi - even though he was writing from a prison at the threat of his life.

And Paul’s contemporary, Peter, had discovered - and lived out - the same attitude when he wrote how Christians need to cast ALL their cares on God because our Lord cares for us [see 1st Peter 5:6-7 above]. And this morning I’m praying that we don’t need to be on a peaceful beach somewhere … or wrapped in warm-fuzzies … to be contented.

Anyone who understands - AND BELIEVES - the reality of Romans 8:28 has learned that our contentment comes from our relationship with Christ … not from any circumstances in which we find ourselves at the moment. Therefore … in Him I am contented.!!

My Prayer Today:  O, Heavenly Father, … Lord, I’m on Your beach … WITH YOU … today … and always!!  Amen
