My Journal for Today: Today’s Our Daily Bread author, Jennifer Benson Schuldt, was teaching for parents today about letting life shape the minds of those young ones (see attached photo). And as one might expect author, Schuldt, taught from the book of Proverbs, which was given to believers as a guidebook for teaching wisdom to our kids.
If you’re a parent, or a grandpa like me, you’d probably agree that life itself becomes one of God’s greatest teaching methods for shaping the minds of our kiddos. And you may be able to remember some of those “teachable moments” which helped your kids, as Phillips, Craig, and Dean sing above, to become more like you, … which prayerfully was allowing them to become more like Christ.
And it’s tough, isn’t it? Many times we’d like to lecture our kids; but allowing them to make mistakes and learn the outcomes of those life lessons is really one of God’s best ways to teach His children. It’s probably how you learned the ways of the Lord the best, isn’t it? … And that is really what God teaches in His word (see Deut. 6: 7 and Prov. 22:6), to help us be good, Godly, parents. So, … being the loving parent, modeled by our loving God, that’s what we do as stewards of those young lives, whom God gives us to shepherd.
We guide them; and we watch over them. We lead them, as the Good Shepherd would lead His sheep; and we patch up the boo-boos when life brings those painful moments; and we do all we can to model our Lord into the lives of our kids. And when we do so, Prov. 22:6 teaches us that the outcome will likely be a child which follows the ways of God, denying self and following Christ (see Luke 9: 23).
My Prayer Today: Heavenly Father, … Oh how I want our kids and grandkids to follow Your ways; so help me to follow You and lead them. Amen
