January 10, 2017 ... Try A Little Kindness

Berry Patch Devotions in 2017 - Day 10

Devotional Song:  … GO TO THIS LINK …  Please take the time to take in a YouTube video of images from the Glen Campbell singing a once popular song in 1970 … Try A Little Kindness … declaring the reality fall Christians should be living because of the ever lasting kindness shone to all who believe on Him as Lord/Savior.

=============
Highlight Verse[s]: Ruth 2:10 [NKJV] …
10 So she [Ruth] fell on her face, bowed down to the ground, and said to him [Boaz], “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?”
… Kindness always breaks down human suspicions and shares God’s love with others.
=============
Highlight Passage [context]: Ruth 2:8-13 [NKJV] … USE THIS LINK
… Boaz reaches out to a Gentile, Ruth, with an act of kindness and Ruth becomes part of the line of humanity which produces The Messiah.

Reference Passage #1 [NKJV] : … Leviticus 19:18 [NKJV] …
18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
… God’s preeminent “Law of Love”

Reference Passage #2 [NKJV] : … Luke 10:27 [NKJV] …
27 So He [Jesus] answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’”
 … Jesus was the complete fulfillment of God’s Law of Love.

Reference Passage #3 [NKJV] : … Galatians 5:14 [NKJV] …
14  For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
… The Apostle Paul preached the Law of Love too.

Reference Passage #4 [NKJV] : … James 2:8 [NKJV] …
8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; …
… And here is Jesus’ brother, James, preaching the same message of love. My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, David Roper, used a story of a phrase popularized by a famous author. The OBD author wrote: Some say that the American writer Anne Herbert scribbled the phrase “Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty” on a placemat at a restaurant in 1982. The sentiment has since been popularized through film and literature and has become a part of our vocabulary.
The question is “Why?” Why should we show kindness? For those who follow Jesus, the answer is clear: To show the tender mercy and kindness of God.

Duh!! … Sure I know that! And how often was that message preached in the Bible? Well, you can check it out above … from the OT thru even Jesus Himself and His disciples in the NT. And it immediately made me think of a popular song, by Glen Campbell (linked above) back in the 70s, which strongly called for all of us, not just Christians, to “try a little kindness” to make life much more bearable/livable.

But we so often fall short of God’s “Law of Love,” don’t we; … even us Christians? Well, today’s reminder quite simply convicts me to at least do all I can to show some kindness and God’s love to someone … AT LEAST TODAY.

And then maybe tomorrow too.

My Prayer Today: Heavenly Father, … help me reach out and share You love and kindness with someone today … and then tomorrow as well. ... Amen
