My Devotional Journal: Today's Our Daily Bread author, Sheridan Voysey, AT THIS LINK writes about how we, as Christians, must deal with a common malady in this complex life, … burnout. Whom among us has not had times when we were frazzled and worn out, … maybe even to the point of feeling like the guy in the photo, … burned out, stressed out, and exhausted.
So, fellow Christian, what do we do? Well, God’s word (see Scriptures above) gives us the answer to that conundrum, doesn’t it. But the question is … are we willing to follow God’s battle plan against burnout?
From God’s word today [see above], Isaiah, 700 years before Christ, prophesied God’s promise to renew our strength when we were willing to focus on Him rather than on ourselves. And when Jesus came to mankind, in Matthew 11:28-30, the Messiah actually invites Christians to yoke ourselves to Him to gain His strength. And when Paul was burned out with “a thorn” in his flesh (see 2Cor. 12:9), he found he was able to glean strength from Jesus’s promise of His empowering grace. And finally, Peter (see 1Peter 5). writing to burned-out and persecuted Christians, told them (and us today) to turn all their [our] cares over to a loving/caring God.
So, knowing that we all can be frazzled, and maybe even burned out, especially in these viral, troubled times, … I’m praying today that we take God’s advice and yoke ourselves to His love/grace and be renewed, as God promised thru Isaiah, like the strength of the eagle.
