Aug 8, 2019 … My Faith Legacy

Berry Patch Devotions in 2019 - Day 220

Devotional Song: … GO TO THIS LINK … Please take the time to take in a YouTube video of song and lyrics from Nichole Nordeman singing … What Can Wash Away My Sin … poignantly singing of how we as Christians need to do all we can from Christ’s great commission to leave a legacy of faith by sharing the love/grace of Christ with as many others in our lives as possible.

==============
Highlight Verse[s]: 2 Timothy 1:5-6 [NLT] … 5 I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. 6 This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.
… Timothy, the young Pastor/Leader of the church in Ephesus, had a parental faith legacy as well as the mentoring of Paul to kindle Timothy’s pastoral calling.

… Jesus, ascending back in heaven, passes along His legacy of faith in Him that we’re to pass along to others in His Name and for His glory.

Reference Passage : … Acts 1:8 [NLT] … 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
… Jesus charges us all to be his legacy witnesses of faith in this world.

My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, Alyson Kieda, used a story of Billy Graham’s faith legacy to illustrate how we need to pass on the legacy of faith from our upbringing as Christians to others. … The ODB author wrote: Long before the decisive moment when Billy Graham came to faith in Christ at age sixteen, his parents’ devotion to Jesus was evident. They’d both come to faith while growing up within a family of believers. After their marriage, Billy’s parents continued that legacy by lovingly nurturing their children, including praying and reading Scripture and attending church faithfully with them. The solid foundation Graham’s parents laid for Billy was part of the soil God used to bring him to faith and, eventually, to his calling as a bold evangelist. [See quote in photo]

The account of a small, but significant, part of the Apostle Paul’s legacy of faith is shared in his 2nd letter to Timothy, the inexperienced/young Pastor of the church in Ephesus, whom Paul had mentored and was passing along the torch of faith to this young pastor. And in doing so, Paul (in the highlight passage) honors Timothy’s faith legacy, by documenting how Timothy’s maternal family had passed down to their son/grandson their faith in Christ; … and then how Paul had fanned those flames, helping the young preacher to pass along Timothy’s faith to others down the road of the young Pastor’s life.

And similarly, if we’ve had someone, perhaps parents or a mentor like I did, who passed along their love for Christ to us, … we need to do so as well, … honoring that legacy of faith, by passing it along to others in our lives. I pray we do so, … as Nichole Nordeman sings the linked song.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, … King Jesus, … I pray, Lord, that all reading here can, and will, join me to pass along Your legacy of love/grace to others whom God leads us to share You with today and tomorrow. … Amen
