My Journal for Today: Today’s Our Daily Bread devotional entry, authored by Lawrence Darmani, reminded his readers (me) of a natural tendency which all mankind has - to forget our God when things are going well in our lives. And he used the references to God in the national anthems of countries like Ghana, which declares, “God bless our homeland,” recognizing God’s providence and protection in their nation.

Darmani, in today’s ODB, points out that it’s our NATURAL tendency to forget God’s providence when things are going well in our lives. That was certainly the tendency of God’s chosen people in the Old Testament, wasn’t it? Oh how often Moses and Solomon and other leaders had to remind the people [see today’s highlight/reference OT passages] to remember God’s covenant grace and mercy and deliverance, even when God’s children had been disobedient.

The Apostle Paul to the church in Corinth [see the link to 1st Corinthian, Chapter 11] had to remind Christians of the remembrance of our Lord through the institution and observance of the Eucharist, where we, who’ve been saved by our God, remember our Lord with the reverence He deserves. … But the reality is such that we tend to forget God’s grace and mercy when things are rolling well in our lives. Hence the remembrance by the Author of the book of Hebrews (see Chapter 11 linked above) that we must remember our God in faith by the way others of faith have lived their lives; … and how we must live ours.

I hope today that we stop, maybe even to have a Communion moment of remembrance, and we honor what our Lord and Savior did to save us, … remembering that His body was broken for us on that Cross and His blood was shed that we have eternal life … WITH HIM.

My Prayer for Today O Lord, … I remember!! … Amen
