My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, Elisa Morgan, writes about a humble law enforcement officer to illustrate the humility we must have in dealing with one another, … just as Christ modeled for us. The ODB author wrote: When asked to define his role in a community that was sometimes uncooperative with law enforcement, a sheriff didn’t flash his badge or respond with the rank of his office. Rather he offered, “We are human beings who work with human beings in crisis.”
His humility—his stated equality with his fellow human beings—reminds me of Peter’s words [in 1Peter 3:8 - today’s highlight passage].
[See the highlight passages from 1st Peter 2, 3, and 5 linked above] ...
The Apostle Peter knew how much the Christians in Asia Minor were being oppressed and persecuted in his day; and in response he tried to write to them and help them treat each other - and even their oppressors - as Jesus had modeled and taught when He walked this earth (see Matt. 11:28 and John 13 linked above).
That story of Jesus washing the feet of His disciples in John 13 [see photo] is one of my favorites to illustrate a quality Jesus modeled for His inner 12 disciples and later ones like Paul. He called Himself “humble and meek” (see Matt. 11:29). And most certainly, … Peter and Paul, in their letters, exhorted all Christians to do all we can to take on Christlike humility (Phil. 2:5 and the highlight passages), and treat each other with a servant’s attitude and actions.
Oh, dear one, … how I desire to be like Jesus - as the linked song so pointedly sings; and perhaps today God will give me an opportunity to show off my best Jesus impression of honest humility, serving and helping others just as He would.
My Prayer Today: Abba Father, … King Jesus, … Precious Spirit … Let me wash some feet today for Your glory! … Amen
