My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, Estera Pirosca Escobar, uses a story of a man who could have lost hope, given his challenges in life, but didn’t because he was able to find hope in something way beyond himself. … The ODB author wrote: Edward Payson (1783–1827) led an extremely difficult life. The death of his younger brother shook him to the core. He struggled with bipolar disorder, and he was affected by extreme migraine headaches for days. If this wasn’t enough, a fall from a horse led to paralysis of his arm, and he almost died from tuberculosis! Surprisingly, his response wasn’t one of despair and hopelessness. His friends said that before Edward passed away, his joy was intense. How could that be?
In the Bible, I really love the journal of the Prophet Habakkuk [see link above]. He comes to God all confused and riddled with doubt as to why God would allow what was going on at the time. And God sits him down and shows Him that NO MATTER WHAT is going on, … HE, the Lord, is in control! And finally Habakkuk comes to DECIDE to put all his hope in His Lord and to find joy. It’s a short OT book. Go back and read it and meditate on Habakkuk 3:17-18 to see that we can trust in our God … NO MATTER WHAT (see the other reference scriptures above).
The question posed here is … DO WE REALLY TRUST GOD; and do we put ALL OUR HOPE in Him? [as Crowder and Wells sing in the linked song] … Because, until we do, we’re going to be overwhelmed by the circumstances of life.
And so, I pray that we move away from trusting our selves and DECIDE TODAY to trust in our Savior.
