January 14, 2019 … Waiting In Faith

Berry Patch Devotions in 2019 - Day 14

Devotional Song: … GO TO THIS LINK … Please take the time to take in YouTube song and lyrics from John Waller singing … While I’m Waiting … poignantly singing of how we Christians must often wait obediently and faithfully on the Lord to meet our needs.

=============
Highlight Verse[s]: Hebrews 11:1-2 [NLT] … 1 Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. 2 Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.
… God shows those who, in our past, have walked by faith and not be sight.
==============
Highlight Passage [context]: Hebrews 11:1-6 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK
… God, in the book of Hebrews, lists a hall of faith of those who walked in their faith in God.
=============

Reference Passage : … Proverbs 3:5-6 [NLT] … 5  Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6  Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.
 … If we truly trust in God, we don’t have to walk in fear - EVER - because He will lead us where we need to go.

Reference Passage : … Luke 9:23 [NLT] … 23 Then He said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be My follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow Me.  ..."
… If we follow our Lord, He will always lead us where we need to go.

Reference Passage : … Philippians 4:19 [NLT] … 19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
… God, thru Paul, promises to supply all we need … so, why would we ever need to fear what we see or perceive.

My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, James Banks, uses a reference to his dog to show us the kind of faith we need in God. The ODB author writes … Lessons on faith can come from unexpected places—like the one I learned from my … Labrador retriever, “Bear.” Bear’s large metal water bowl was located in a corner of the kitchen. Whenever it was empty, he wouldn’t bark or paw at it. Instead, he would lie down quietly beside it and wait. [See photo]
 Sometimes he would have to wait several minutes, but Bear had learned to trust that I would eventually walk into the room, see him there, and provide what he needed. His simple faith in me reminded me of my need to place more trust in God.

Often in life, just as the ODB author’s dog and as John Waller sings in the linked song, we who follow Christ must patiently and obediently wait on God, … believing, in faith, that our Lord, as He promises, will meet our needs [Phil. 4:19]. We must, as the author of Hebrews declares (see the highlight passage) walk by faith rather than by sight (see also Prov. 3:5-6).

And sometimes we have to be willing to wait patiently - and obediently - for our Lord to show us His path in life. Unfortunately, … all too often, at least for this impatient Christian, we can get let our feelings or fears guide us rather than our faith.

Anybody like that besides me? … Well, today I’m praying that we just do what “Bear” did … and just lie down and wait on God to give us our water.

My THANKFULNESS: … Oh Abba Father, … thank You, Lord, … for Your faithfulness to ALWAYS take care of my needs.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, … King Jesus, … I pray, Lord, that all reading here can, and will, join me - at least today - to patiently wait for God to meet our needs … just as He promises. … Amen
