October 10, 2013 … God’s Completed Covenant

Daily Berry Patch Devotions in 2013 - Day 283

Devotional Song: Go to this link -  Please take the time to meditate on this poignant song, worship being led by the group, Hillsong, the song being Jesus, You’re All I Need, … praising God for His covenant established and fulfilled in and through Christ, Who completed all God needed for us to live in Him forever; and now He’s all we, as His, have all we need to live in and for Him.

Highlight meditation passage – Genesis 6: 18 : [God’s first major covenant with man, made to/through Noah.]
18 But I will confirm My covenant with you. So enter the boat—you and your wife and your sons and their wives.

Reference Passage #1: 1st Thessalonians 5: 23-24 … [Now our New Covenant – the final covenant with God has been established and completed by our Lord, Jesus; and when we live it out in our lives, He gives us all we need to live in and for Him.] … [NLT] …
23 Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. 24 God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.

Reference Passage #2: 2nd Peter 1: 3-4 … [Yes, Jesus is all we need!] … [NLT] …
3 By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the One who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

  Reference Passage #2: 2nd Corinthians 12: 9 … [God’s covenant grace is sufficient for any/all of life.] … [NLT] …
9 Each time He said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. … “

My Journal for Today: “Covenant” is a concept and a reality which weaves itself throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. A “covenant” is a binding agreement made between two parties, which, once established, requires both parties to take action to surrender and fulfill the carefully defined, and mutually agreed-upon, contract.

God made seven (the complete number) covenants with mankind, … the first being made to and through Noah and the last completed by Jesus. The other covenants were made to/through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and David. And if you have time someday, it would be a very productive study to look deeply into those covenants. I have done this study; and from it I came to realize just how complete God’s promises are for all who believe in those covenant promises. … But here, today, I’m just going to focus on the first and the last of those covenants.

God made His first major/documented covenant with Noah, which we know involved God’s wrath on mankind for their sin, saving Noah and his family life by the building of an ark, which we now know was a picture of what God would do in and through His final covenant, given through and fulfilled by Jesus, … Who became “the ark” into which any who came Him in faith would be sealed and given life. Studying the covenant God made with Noah and His Son, Jesus, would be a definite faith-building exercise for you; but today, I’m just asking any reader to go back and read through God’s covenant to Noah in Genesis, Chapter 6, linked above, and then to take in the wonderful worship song, led by the group Hillsong, who sing of Jesus’ promise in His fulfillment of the final, NEW, Covenant, that He would be – and IS – all we need in this life [and the next] to partake of His saving and sanctifying grace.

And oh how I hope all who read this have come on board Jesus’ ark, which has been sealed by His atoning blood on the cross for all who have faith in His covenant … so that all who receive this free ride of grace will live forever with Him. What a deal [!!] about which Hillsong sings and Peter wrote about in his last will and testament … see 2nd Peter 1: 3-4; … and I pray that we all live in the realization of that truth.

My friends, Jesus has done-it-all! He said it from the cross, “It is finished!” And now, in His New Covenant we have all we need, even in our weakness, as Jesus declared through Paul (see 2nd Cor. 12: 9) that His grace was – and is – sufficient for anything we’ll face in life. But are we living in the internalized reality of God’s Covenant promises? Not answering this question for you, I dare say I need to surrender more of me to His New Covenant and allow His grace to operate more powerfully in my life.

How about you?

My Prayer for Today … Lord Jesus, You are all I need. … Amen
