November 11, 2022 … Getting To The Source …

Berry Patch Devotions in 2021 - Day 315

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ...   Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from the group Casting Crowns singing … Jesus Friend of Sinners … powerfully singing of how is the friend and Savior of any sinners who come to him for redemption.

He breaks the chains which bind us to our past ....

Highlight Passage: …  Mark 7:14-15  [ESV] …

14 Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. “All of you listen,” He said, “and try to understand. 15 It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart.”

… Jesus shows that it is the condition of our hearts as sinners which is the source of the ills we see in the world.

Highlight Passage (Context): … Mark 7:14-23 [NLT] …  USE THIS LINK …

…Jesus strongly declares that what we eat is not what defiles us as humans, it is the sinful condition of our hearts

Reference Passage: …  Psalm 139:23-24 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK

Reference Passage: … Isaiah 53:6 [NLT] …

All of us, like sheep, have strayed away.  We have left God’s path to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on Him the sins of us all.

… Isaiah prophesies for God that, even tho we sinners have followed our own sinful ways, God will send One, … a Messiah, … to take on the sins of all of us.

Reference Passage: …  Romans 3:23 [NLT] …

23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard..

… Paul recognizes that sin lies in the heart of every man (or woman) and causes us to fall short of living to the glory of God.

Reference Passage: …  1John 1:9 [NLT] …

But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

… God’s promise, thru John, to cleanse any sinner who comes to God confessing of our sin.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, Ray Gustafson… AT THIS LINK   … writes of how the best scientific minds in London in the 1854 cholera epidemic misdiagnosed the problem being bad drinking water which came from the infection getting into the river Thames, the drinking supply for the city.

And for millennia mankind has not been able to see that the source of the calamities we face in this world comes from the pandemic of sin which began in the Garden of Eden and still befalls mankind to this date.

But if my readers have taken in the linked song and the Scriptures above which truly get at the source of sin-ridden mankind, we can, as King David did (see Psalms 51 and 139) confess and pray with repentance to be cleansed and redeemed of our sin (see also 1John 1:9), … walking in repentance to follow God’s way rather than our own.  Pretty good deal, wouldn’t you say?!

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh, Abba Father, thank You, King Jesus, … for showing me Your way to live rather than my own.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... . I pray that all reading here will join me, … to walk in Your ways, Lord, all the way to be with You in glory.     Amen
