June 15, 2016: Understanding God’s Truth

Daily Berry Patch Devotions in 2016 - Day 167

Devotional Song:  … GO TO THIS LINK …   Please take the time to take in a You Tube video of Krystyn Getty singing, … Speak, O Lord, expressing the need of all Christians to receive God’s truth through His word.

Highlight Passage:  Acts 2:5-6 [NKJV] …
5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.
… God’s Spirit descended on believer’s hearts at Pentecost, giving them the ability to hear and understand God’s truth.

… God’s Spirit speaking to the hearts of true believers.
============

Reference Passage #1 … Psalm 119 [NKJV] … USE THIS LINK
… When God’s word transforms a true believer.

Reference Passage #2 … Isiah 55:11 [NKJV] …
11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; … it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
… God will communicate most powerfully through His word.

Reference Passage #3 … 2nd Timothy 3: 16-17 [NKJV] …
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
… God’s word is the heartbeat of life from Him to born-again believers.

My Journal for Today:  … Our Daily Bread author, Amy Pye,reflected on what it must’ve been like on Pentecost when God’s Spirit descended upon the gathering of Christ followers and He led them to speak in tongues. In today’s ODB entry, Pye wrote, I sometimes reflect on how wonderful it must have been on the day of Pentecost when people of many nations could understand what the disciples were saying. … On that day, pilgrims gathered together in Jerusalem to celebrate the festival of the harvest. The Holy Spirit rested on the believers so that when they spoke, the hearers (who had come from all over the known world) could understand them in their own languages (Acts 2:5–6). What a miracle that these strangers from different lands could understand the praises to God in their own tongues! Many were spurred on to find out more about Jesus.

Well, though I don’t believe that God’s Spirit uses mass speaking in tongues in this church age to speak to corporate worship, I do think God’s Spirit has given us God’s primary way of communicating directly with believers; and that is through His canonized and written word. His word, our Bible, is God’s language of love that speaks ever so forcefully and clearly in our chaotic multi-linguistic and self-driven world (see attached photo).

So, join me in taking in the song above which reflects on the reality of God speaking to us through His word; and then join me to consume God’s communication of love through His word here daily. I’ll be here tomorrow - as all days - reflecting on God’s truth thru His word. And any who’re with me can join me in the reality of the truth of those Scriptures shared above.

My Prayer Today:  O, Heavenly Father, … As Kristyn Getty sings, Lord, … thank You for speaking to me so clearly through Your word.    Amen
