June 22, 2016: God Is Our Provider

Daily Berry Patch Devotions in 2016 - Day 174

Devotional Song:  … GO TO THIS LINK …  Please take the time to take in a You Tube video of the group, Hillsong, leading in worship and singing … Jesus, You’re All I Need, poignantly expressing the truth that our Lord is the provider of all we need. … AND ON TO THIS LINK for Chris Tomlin singing Lord I Need You also expressing our need for God, Our Provider.

Highlight Passage:  Mark 6:34 [NKJV] …
34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things.
… And seeing that they were hungry, He used as few loaves and fishes to feed several thousand.

Highlight Context – Mark 6:31-44 [NKJV] … USE THIS LINK
… Jesus compassionately providing for thousands in a remote location - also found in Matthew 14:13-21, Luke 9:10-17 and John 6:5-15.

Reference Passage #1 … Proverbs 3: 5-6 [NKJV] …
5 Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and lean not on your own understanding. 6 In ALL your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.
… We probably know that one by heart … but do really believe it … and live by it?

Reference Passage #2 … Philippians 4:19 [NKJV] …
19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
… But do we trust Him to do so?

  Reference Passage #3 … 1st Peter 5:7 [NKJV] …
7 … casting all your care on Him because He cares for you.
… Really? … Yes, really!!

My Journal for Today:  … Our Daily Bread author, Jennifer Schudt, used an illustration to remind her readers (me) of our need to trust in God’s provision. The ODB author wrote: Tristan da Cunha Island is famous for its isolation. [See attached photo] It is the most remote inhabited island in the world, thanks to the 288 people who call it home. The island is located in the South Atlantic Ocean, 1,750 miles from South Africa—the nearest mainland. Anyone who might want to drop by for a visit has to travel by boat for seven days because the island has no airstrip.

The few people on this remote island are dependent on the provisions of others for their needs; and this was the lesson Jesus tried to show His followers in another remote location when He fed several thousand hungry followers, as related in today’s highlight passage. Unfortunately, sometimes God has to lead us or allow us into circumstances in our lives to show us, as the group Hillsong sings in the linked song, that He’s all we need.

I will pray this morning that we recognize the lesson of Phil. 4:19; and we trust our Lord to be our provider and Good Shepherd in all circumstances (see Prov. 3:5-6 and 1st Pet. 5:7), … yes, even when we’re feeling isolated and all alone.

My Prayer Today:  O, Heavenly Father, … Lord, we trust You to provide for all we need.    Amen
