June 16, 2016: “Some Assembly Required”

Daily Berry Patch Devotions in 2016 - Day 168

Devotional Song:  … GO TO THIS LINK …   Please take the time to take in a You Tube video of Queen Latifah singing, … Fix Me, Jesus, expressing the need of all Christians to receive God's redeeming and restoring grace.

Highlight Passage:  Judges 2:18 [NKJV] …
18 And when the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the Lord was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed them and harassed them.
… God’s people required His restoration repetitively during the years of the judges.

============

Reference Passage #1 … Lamentations 3:22-23 [NKJV] … USE THIS LINK
… Fortunately for mankind, God’s restorative mercies are new every morning.

Reference Passage #2 … John 14:21 [NKJV] …
  21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
… God’s redemption and restoration is available to anyone who truly loves Him.

My Journal for Today:  … Our Daily Bread author, Randy Kilgore, told a personal story in his ODB devotional today which reminded me of a terror which recurred at Christmases when our kids were growing up. The fear came with any toy purchased which had a tag which read, “Some Assembly Required.” When my wife saw that, she would grown because she knew I’d likely try to put that item together without using the instructions; and invariably, I’d have trouble putting the item together the night before Christmas.

And the Bible illustrates over and over how mankind is that way about life, … given to Adam & Eve in such a beautiful, perfect package in the garden; but they messed up because they wouldn't follow God’s instructions. And in the book of Judges [see highlight passage above] we read of how God had to bail out His chosen ones over and over and over again with judges when they failed to follow His perfect instructions (see those commandments in Exodus, Chapter 20).

So often we allow our lives to get out of order because we’re simply not willing to follow God’s instruction manual. We are certainly God’s package which requires some fixing; and God is willing (and most able) to do the fixing if we’re willing to use His instructions.

So, I pray all will take in Queen Latifah’s poignant - and very pertinent - plea in the linked song above; and then by taking in - and following - the instructions in the Scriptures above, perhaps we will finally let God use His instructions to fix us the way we need fixing.

My Prayer Today:  O, Heavenly Father, … Fix me, Jesus, … fix me!!!    Amen
