February 10, 2019 … Show Me the Way, Lord

Berry Patch Devotions in 2019 - Day 41

Devotional Song: … GO TO THIS LINK … Please take the time to take in a YouTube song and lyrics from a worship service, singing the song by Keith Getty and Stuart Townsend … Speak O Lord … of how God’s word becomes our guide and authority in life, shining God’s light and guiding us thru the difficult and sometimes dark roads of life.

=============
Highlight Verse[s]: Psalm 119:16, … 105 [NLT] … 16  I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word. … 105  Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
 … The attitude we, as Christians, should have about God’s word, using it as a guide - or “GPS” in our lives.
==============
Highlight Passage [context]: Psalm 119:9-16, 96-105 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK
… God, thru the Psalmist, shows how God’s word becomes the light which God uses to guide our lives.

=============
Reference Passage : … Proverbs 3:5-6 [NLT] … 5  Trust in the Lord with all your heart; … do not depend on your own understanding. 6  Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.
…That’s what God’s word will do if we trust it as our “GPS” in life.

Reference Passage : … Isaiah 55:11 [NLT] … 11  It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
…God’s word, when it’s used for His purposes ALWAYS gives us His direction and empowering grace, becoming our “GPS” (God’s Positioning System) for life.

Reference Passage : … 2 Timothy 3:16-17 [NLT] … 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
… God, thru Paul, gives us His assurance that He is doing a work in us to transform us into His own image.

My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, Arthur Jackson, uses a reference to Psalm 119 where the psalmist shows how God’s word give us light on the darkened roads of life. The ODB author writes … Psalm 119 is the masterful composition of one who understood that God’s Word provides us with light for everyday living (v. 105). Yet, how often do we find ourselves in situations similar to my uncomfortable night on the highway? We needlessly strain to see, and we sometimes stray from the best paths because we forget to use the light of God’s Word. Psalm 119 encourages us to be intentional about “hitting the light switch.”

I’ve always likened the message that the writer of Psalm 119 brings to our modern-day GPS devices, describing God’s word as “God’s Positioning System,” [see photo] … whereby God has given us the perfect direction-finder for life, … shining His light on our path (again, see v. 105) to show us the way in life (see reference passages). And if we, as Christians, don’t choose to use His “GPS,” and we try to go it alone, we can expect to get off track and get lost along the roads of life.

We need to recognize the truth of those reference passages above and quit trying to find our own way [Prov. 3:5-6], trusting that God’s “GPS,” … His word, … will do exactly what is sung in the linked song. And if we do, we’ll find our Lord shining His light brightly on our path to follow, … leading us to His glory.

My THANKFULNESS: … Oh Abba Father, … thank You, Lord, … for giving us your perfect “GPS” for life in Your Word.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, … King Jesus, … I pray, Lord, that all reading here can, and will, join me to utilize God’s “GPS” to guide us today - and all days - down the roads of life. … Amen
