February 5, 2020 … Staying On Track

Berry Patch Devotions in 2020 - Day 36

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ...  Please take the time to take in a YouTube video of song and lyrics from Kim Walker-Smith singing … Holy Spirit … poignantly singing of how God’s presence/power indwells those who closely follow His Spirit.

Blind runner being led to victory

=============
Highlight Verse[s]: 1John 2:27 [NLT] ...  27 But you have received the Holy Spirit, and He lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what He teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.
… John shows fellow Christians how to avoid being led astray by false teaching; and above all to remain in close fellowship with Christ, following God’s Spirit.

Highlight Passage [context]: 1John 2:18-27 [ESV] ... USE THIS LINK ...
… The Apostle teaching the truth about being tuned into the Holy Spirit to avoid false teaching/teachers.

Reference Passage : … Psalm 139:7, 23-24 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK
… King David learned and recognized that the only way to stay on God’s track is to relent and follow God’s Spirit.

Reference Passage : … Luke 4:1 [NLT] … 21 Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, …
… Jesus ALWAYS followed God’s Spirit, even when Satan led Him into the wilderness. So if following God’s Spirit is good enough for our Savior, it’s good enough for us.

Reference Passage : … John 14:21 [NLT] … 21 Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.”
… Jesus shows His disciples how to have Himself manifest in them; and that is to obey and follow His commands.

… God’s formula to avoid following the ways of the world - to be surrendered to and following God’s Spirit.

My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, Patricia Raybon, uses a true story of a blind runner tethered to another Olympic class runner in order to stay on track. … The ODB author wrote: As the world’s fastest blind runner, David Brown of the U.S. Paralympic Team credits his wins to God, his mother’s early advice (“no sitting around”), and his running guide—veteran sprinter Jerome Avery. Tethered to Brown by a string tied to their fingers, Avery guides Brown’s winning races with words and touches. [see photo]
“It’s all about listening to his cues,” says Brown, who says he could “swing out wide” on 200-meter races where the track curves. “Day in and day out, we’re going over race strategies,” Brown says, “communicating with each other—not only verbal cues, but physical cues.”

The ODB author’s life picture of a blind runner being led to victory by being tethered to another world class runner is an apt illustration of how we, as Christians, need to be tethered to and closely following God’s Spirit to stay on track, … i.e., God’s track, … in life. As I wrote above about Jesus’ trek on earth, even as He was led into the wilderness by Satan, He was ALWAYS totally surrendered to and following God’s Spirit. And that, most certainly is our model for life, isn’t it?

The self inventory question then today is … ARE WE surrendered to and filled by God’s Spirit, letting Him lead and guide us thru life? All of the Scripture authors (see above), King David, the Apostles John and Paul, wrote to help fellow believers realize that their only discernment and power comes from the presence of God’s Spirit leading us thru the wilderness of life.

So, I pray that we are in tune with God’s Spirit today and avoiding the luring calls to misdirection from the world.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... I pray, Lord, that all reading here will join me, to abide in and follow Your Spirit, Who will always lead us to victory in Christ. Amen
