July 10, 2015 … Help With My Load

Daily Berry Patch Devotions in 2015 - Day 191

Devotional Song: … GO TO THIS LINK … Please take the time to once again take in a video of Steven Curtis Chapman singing the song lyrics he wrote for His Strength Is Perfect, with God’s exhortation to allow Him to help us carry our burdens.

Highlight Passage Numbers 11: 16-17 [NKJV] …
16 So the Lord said to Moses: “Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; bring them to the tabernacle of meeting, that they may stand there with you. 17 Then I will come down and talk with you there. I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and will put the same upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you may not bear it yourself alone.
… We need to realize that we have Christ’s body of believers to help us carry the burdens of life.

Reference Passage #1 - Matthew 11: 28-30 [NKJV] USE THIS LINK ...
… Jesus offers to help carry our load with His grace … why don’t we take Him up on it?

Reference Passage #2 - 2nd Corinthiana 12: 9 [NKJV] …
9… My grace is sufficient for you; … for My strength is made perfect in your weakness.
… But the burden is not lightened unless/until we’re willing to use God’s grace to lighten the load.

Reference Passage #2 - 1st Peter 5: 7 [NKJV] …
7 … casting all your cares on Him, for He cares for you.
… Good deal, huh?

My Journal for Today: Today’s Our Daily Bread author, Jennifer Schuldt, used an illustration to show how we, as humans, can carry so much more of a load when we use techniques like that one in the attached photo - a bicycle carrier which can haul up to 300 pounds of gear at 10 mph or even more at slower speeds. So often - and I think too often - we Christians get into a place, as was Moses when he was dealing with the grumbling Israelites in the wilderness [see Numbers 11 above], where we try to carry too much of life’s burdens on our own. And especially when we become too prideful and unwilling to gain help from Christ’s body, we often wilt under the loads of life. How about we just do what Moses did, when led by God, to get some help … to enlist others in the body of Christ to help us carry our load. And above all, we need to take the emotional and/or spiritual burdens to the Lord, Himself, who cares enough and is willing to shoulder our load with us (see Reference passages above).

My Prayer Today: Oh Lord, … help me carry my burdens today. Amen
