My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, Winn Collier, uses a story of a young student who had too much focus on his own abilities and not enough reliance on Christ in his life, … a focus shared by far too many of us. … The ODB author wrote: I once heard about a student taking a class in preaching at a prominent seminary. The student, a young man who was a bit full of himself, delivered his sermon with eloquence and evident passion. He sat down self-satisfied, and the professor paused a moment before responding. “That was a powerful sermon,” he said. “It was well organized and moving. The only problem is that God was not the subject of a single one of your sentences.”

And this ODB story illustrates a very, VERY common, … but mistaken, … focus in the lives of many Christians. And it points to one resounding question: What or Whom is at the center of our lives?

And as I meditate on the ODB story and the scriptures above, I do so with conviction. Because all too often I’m trying to please others and make ME be the focus of attention. But especially reading Jesus’ charge to His followers (see John 15:1-8, esp. v. 5), … I realize that we will never be fruitful in our lives unless, as Paul reinforced to Christians [see Col. 1:17], … King Jesus is the abiding focus of our lives.

And I pray He is [see photo] … for yours truly and all reading here.
