September 13, 2022 … God’s Fish Story …

Berry Patch Devotions in 2021 - Day 256

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ...  Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from Steve Green singing … People Need the Lord … poignantly singing how we are called, as disciples of Christ, to share His Gospel truth with any/all who need His saving grace.

A big fish story ...

==============

Highlight Passage: …  Jonah 2:10 [NLT] …

10 Then the Lord ordered the fish to spit Jonah out onto the beach.

… God delivers Jonah from death, having been swallowed and spit out by a God’s big fish.

Highlight Passage (Context): … Jonah 2:1-10 [NLT] …  USE THIS LINK …

… Jonah relates his story of being delivered by God from a big fish.                                              ===============                                                                     .

Reference Passage: … Matthew 22:14 [ESV] …

14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

… Jesus on the reality of salvation in this sin-ridden world.

Reference Passage: … Acts 1:8 [ESV] …

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

… Jesus calls and commands all His disciples to be His witnesses in the time the Lord has given us in this life.

Reference Passage: … Ephesian 2:10 [ESV] …

10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago..

… Paul shows that we were created and chosen by God to be called to be His workmanship.

Reference Passage: … 2Timothy 1:9 [ESV] …

For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was His plan from before the beginning of time—to show us His grace through Christ Jesus.

… Paul teaches Timothy (and us) that God saved us by His grace, before time , to become his servants on earth.

Reference Passage: … 1Peter 2:9 [ESV] …

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light.

… Paul shares truth with fellow Christis that we born-again Christians where chosen to be saved to help others come from the darkness of sin into the Light of Christ’s saving grace.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, Mike Wittmer … AT THIS LINK shares a story of a diver, named Michael, who was swimming close to a sperm whale (see photo) and was accidentally swept into the whale’s mouth, which the whale then spit Micheal out, apparently not desiring to have the diver in the whale’s mouth.

And of course, this wondrous “fish story,” reminds us of the Bible story of Jonah, doesn’t it? And we remember how God dealt with His chosen, but reluctant, Prophet, Jonah, … who was called to share God’s salvation with the previously lost people of Nineveh.  And today’s ODB entry reminds us, as does Steve Green’s linked song, that we, as Christ’s disciples, have been chosen and called to share God’s saving grace with those who desperately need saving.

The question is, as it was for Jonah, … are we willing to share God’s love and grace with others … maybe even called to so so today?  And, … what will it take for God to spit us out from our selfish ways to become what He called us to do by sharing Him with those who need His saving grace?

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh, Abba Father, thank You, King Jesus, … for giving me Your enabling grace to share Your love with others.

My Prayer Today:  Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... . I pray that all reading here will join me, …  to exercise our calling, Lord. by sharing Your saving grace with others, … maybe even today.    .… Amen
