My Journal for Today: Today’s Our Daily Bread devotional entry, authored by Julie Ackerman Link, uses an illustration from her youth to teach how doing the work of God should be done. And the author tells of her learning how to use a hoola-hoop when she was a girl, learning that it wasn’t frantic action which kept the plastic ring spinning. No, it was quietly using a correct motion which did the trick, … action which relied on technique, rather than wild, self-directed, physical motions.
And Jesus taught a similar lesson to His inner 12 Disciples as well, when they were surrounded by thousands of hungry followers on a hill near Capernaum. Jesus’ Disciples were frantically trying to figure out how to feed all the hungry people; and the Lord showed them that faith in God and just a few loaves and fishes would be enough to feed them all with food left over. Again this truth was also taught by what Kristyn Getty sings in the song link today. It’s “BY FAITH” we move to glorify God - not be just doing things our own way.
Once again, it doesn’t take a doctorate in theology or a Ph.D. in physics to get the lesson God is teaching through His word here today. Paul taught it simply in the link above from Galatians 6: 9, when he wrote - “ And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. “ And we’ll always avoid such weariness in doing God’s work when we follow His commands from Luke 9: 23 and Matthew 11: 28-30, referenced above. If we just avoid trying to do the work in our own power and - IN FAITH - follow God’s way, we’ll get the work done for God’s glory.
Okay, … what can we do to keep the hoola-hoop going today while doing God’s work - HIS WAY?
My Prayer for Today … Lord, … Let me follow You and do Your work, Your way today. Amen
