Highlight Context - NKJV: Genesis 12: 1-10; 13: 1 [NKJV] … GO TO THIS LINK  Sometimes God leads us on a detour in life; …and we go not knowing why …

Reference Passage #1: Proverbs 3: 5-6 [NKJV] … You should know this one by now if you’ve read along with me; … if not, go find it and meditate on its truth …

Reference Passage #2: Acts 8: 26-27 [NKJV] … God calls Philip and he goes …
26 Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert. 27 So he arose and went.

Reference Passage #3: Hebrews 11: 1 [NKJV] … Faith is sometimes a detour in life …
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

My Journal for Today: Today’s Our Daily Bread devotional entry, authored by Dave Branon, reminds his readers (that’s me) of a reality that most of us have faced in life - probably more than once; and that is a detour on the highways of life, … where we’re required to get off the main road - or the one our GPS has led us - and take an unseen and unknown route to bypass some unknown dilemma.

Our biblical examples today included the well-known story of Abram, who was called out of his home by God; and he went, … not knowing where God was leading him. And as we read in Genesis, Chapter 12, he was given several detours by God before the Lord led him to where he would finally pitch his tent.

In the New Testament, Christ’s later disciples, like Paul and Philip were rerouted a number of times (see the Acts 8 example referenced above) as God’s Spirit led them - by faith - to spread the Good News of the Gospel, … sometimes leading them to travel in dangerous territories unknown to them. But as we read, in Hebrews 11: 1 faith often requires taking unseen and unknown detours in life … yes, just because God calls us away from our own GPS direction and off onto the Lord’s route for our lives.

About 15 years ago, God called my wife and I to move off our direction in life, to retire from a professional career of over 30 years in healthcare, and to travel down an unexplored road in life, co-founding and leading in a ministry to help Christians walk free from the self-imposed chains of addiction to habitual sexual sin. And not knowing where this detour would take us; and not knowing what this road would look like, we followed. And God led us to help many men walk the walk of faith, rather than the flesh; and He led us to help many marriages be rekindled and renewed. The detour was certainly well worth it … not because of what we’ve done, … but because of where God has led us.

Is God calling you to some detour in life? If so, take it!!!

My Prayer for Today … Lord, … Thank You for leading us down Your road … rather than the safer one we were on years ago. … Amen
