… God’s truth - through Paul - of the permanence and power of God’s word

My Journal for Today: Today’s Our Daily Bread devotional entry, authored by Dennis Fisher, uses a lovely word picture to illustrate the life-giving power of God’s word to bring life out of death. If you’ve ever been in the desert after a rain shower, you may have seen what is illustrated in the attached photo, … how lovely flowers spring up out of the barren desert lands.

And ODB author today, Dennis Fisher, points out that God’s word, when it is applied to our lives, … and even lives which are barren and lifeless, … will never, as God says through the Prophet in Isaiah 55: 11, be void. In fact, as God, through Paul, also wrote to Timothy [and to us in 2nd Timothy 3: 16-17], Scripture is like the rain in the desert, producing life when things seem dead or barren in our lives.

Today, I was led to go back and read and meditate on Psalm 119 (see the passages linked above), where the Psalmist shows his love affair with the word of God. And I believe, when any of us have that kind of love for God’s truth, getting it deeply into our hearts, as God spoke to Joshua in Joshua 1: 8 or through David in Psalm 1, we will come alive just as the blossoms do in the desert when they are fed by the rain.

I pray that we’re all deeply into God’s word every day and being revived and fed by God’s living waters.

My Prayer for Today O Lord, … Your word is the source of life in my spirit; and it revives me daily. … Amen
