… Paul learned that only God’s grace can lift us up when the pain of life is overwhelming

My Journal for Today:  Today’s Our Daily Bread author, Cindy Hess Kasper, uses a personal story to illustrate her teaching about the fears we often have in life which paralyze us from moving forward. Kasper tells of her grandmother’s fear of her granddaughter flying, relating … So one year, I decided to fly to visit them in the small town of Land O’Lakes, Wisconsin, for a long weekend. As we drove to the airport for my return flight, Grandma, who had never flown, began to express her fears to me: “That was such a small plane you flew on . . . . There’s nothing really holding you up there, is there? . . . I would be so afraid to go up that high.”

So many times in life it’s our lack of understanding which causes us to be fearful or to hesitate when the truth and our faith can lift us up and provide the strength to move forward. Today, as you read what I’m writing here, as well as God’s truth in Scripture above, is there anything in your life where you feel overwhelmed or feeling too weak to move forward?

That’s what young David felt at one time when he was captured by an enemy and had to feign insanity, allowing God to free him and lift him up (see the highlight passage from Psalm 34 linked above). But as Josh Groban sings in the linked song above, God will raise us up when we’re down; or as Steven Curtis Chapman sings, … He will give us the strength, when our strength is gone.

So, when we need our Lord’s strength to cover our weakness, … let Him be our Lifter … our Deliverer.

My Prayer Today:  Oh, my Lord, … I fly free with You lifting me up.  … Amen
