April 1, 2018 … Rejected By Men

Berry Patch Devotions in 2017 - Day 91

Devotional Song: … GO TO THIS LINK …  Please take the time to take in a YouTube video of images and lyrics from the aria in Handel’s Messiah from Isaiah 53 concerning the “Man of Sorrows” … Handel’s Messiah … poignantly singing of how the Messiah was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, being rejected by men.

=============
Highlight Verse[s]: Isaiah 53:3 [NLT] … 3  He was despised and rejected - a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.
… Our Lord … rejected by men …

Reference Passage : … Matthew 28:1-7 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK … https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+28%3A1-7&version=NLT … God’s messenger angel told the women at the tomb … “HE IS RISEN!”

My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, Tim Gustafson, wrote of a singer who was rejected by the judgements of others to illustrate that we are no different that those who had the Messiah crucified. … The ODB author wrote: Susannah Cibber gained fame in the eighteenth century for her talent as a singer. However, she was equally well known for her scandalous marital problems. That’s why when Handel’s Messiah was first performed in Dublin in April 1742, many in the audience did not approve of her role as a featured soloist.
During that inaugural performance, Cibber sang of the Messiah: “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief” (Isaiah 53:3 kjv). Those words so moved Rev. Patrick Delany that he jumped to his feet and said, “Woman, for this be all thy sins forgiven thee!”

Here in the enlightened times of the 21st century, are we any different than those who wanted to put down this singer who became famous for her performance of the aria in Handel’s Messiah (see linked song) about the “Man of sorrows?” [see Isiah 53]

I think not.

We still judge and put down others … just as our Lord was rejected by men and even crucified by the nails of our sins. But … BUT … PTL!!! … He arose from the grave and we can proclaim along with Handel’s Messiah and the angel at Jesus’ tomb [Matt. 28:7] … ”HE IS RISEN!”

Will you join me to proclaim on this glorious day … ALELUIA, HE IS RISEN INDEED!!”

My THANKFULNESS: … Oh Lord, Jesus, thank You for Your victory over death.
