Berry Patch Devotions in 2019 - Day 299

Devotional Song: … GO TO THIS LINK …  Please take the time to take in a YouTube of song by Glen Campbell singing his 1970 hit song … Try A Little Kindness … poignantly singing of how we must overcome our selfishness and share the love of God with others.

Highlight Verse[s]: Ephesians 2:10 [NLT] … 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
… When we’re born again, we become geared to work beyond our natural sinful selfishness and to share the love of God with others.

Highlight Passage [context]: Ephesian 2:1-10 [NLT]… USE THIS LINK
… The Apostle Paul was exhorting Gentile Christians to move out of their past selfish ways and share the love of Christ with others so that God would be glorified thru their unselfish acts of kindness.

Reference Passage : … John 14:21 [NLT] … 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
… In Christ we can (and will) be able to rise above natural selfishness and share the kindness of Christ with others when we’re obedient to Christ’s commands to love one another.

Reference Passage : … Acts 20:35 [NLT] … 35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
… When we labor to share God’s kindness with others we become His agents of love.

My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, Amy Boucher Pye, used a personal experience to illustrate how a simple act of kindness represents the love of God being shared with others. The ODB author writes … My friend was waiting to pay for her groceries when the man in front of her turned around and handed her a voucher for £10 ($14) off her bill. Short on sleep, she burst into tears because of his kind act; then she started laughing at herself for crying. This unexpected kindness touched her heart and gave her hope during a period of exhaustion. She gave thanks to the Lord for His goodness extended to her through another person.

A simple, but challenging, question springs from today’s sharing of the song, scriptures, and ODB entry above; and that is … What can we do today to share the love of God thru some simple act of kindness to others?   And perhaps that can be as simple as a genuine smile and an offer to help someone in need, much as Mother Theresa did all her adult life [see photo].

But we don’t have to be a missionary to Calcutta to simply recognize someone in need around us and offer our kindness to them, do we?

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, … King Jesus, … I pray, Lord, that we all can reach out and be kind to someone today. … Amen
