Dec 10, 2020 … Our Humble King

Berry Patch Devotions in 2020 - Day 345

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ...    Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from Charl Folscher singing … Humble King …  poignantly singing of how Jesus is our majestic, yet HUMBLE, King of kings.

King Jesus' Crown of Glory ...

==============

Highlight Passage:   Philippians 2:8 [ESV] ...

And being found in human form, He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

  Jesus, our Lord and King, was willing to humble Himself to even die ignominiously on a cross to save us. Are we willing to humble ourselves to be like Him?

Reference Passage: … Mark 10:42-45  [ESV] … USE THIS LINK

  Jesus shows His disciples (and us) that they (we) must be willing to humble ourselves to serve others just as a slave would serve his master.

Reference Passage: … John 13:12-15 [ESV] … USE THIS LINK

  Jesus showed His disciples in the upper room what they must be willing to do to serve others just as He had washed their feet like a slave.

Reference Passage: … 1Peter 5:1-7 [ESV] … USE THIS LINK

  Peter teaches fellow Christians about humility being the key to leadership and followership in the church.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, Glenn Packiam, AT THIS LINK  wrote of the Roman emperor, Octavian, conning the Roman Senate into affirming him as the “servant of Rome,” which gave him the title, of “Caesar Augustus.” And we know, in Jesus’ time, how cruel he became as the Emperor of Rome.

If I asked the question, “How many of us want to be like Jesus;” … I would hope that all reading here would affirm in the positive. Okay then, … what does that mean for us as Christ’s disciples?  And the Scriptures above give us the answer.

Jesus wanted His disciples to become servant leaders.  He wanted them (and us) to see that He, … as the King-of-kings and Lord-of lords, … as  THE MESSIAH, … was willing to set aside His glory/majesty and, being one with God, the Father, even to die on a cross, taking on a crown of thorns (see photo) to save mankind from our sins [see highlight passage].

And Jesus, after He had walked with His disciples for a long time, the night before His crucifixion, was even willing to take on the role of a slave to wash their feet [see John 13:12-15], illustrating how they would have to serve mankind when He left them to return to heaven.  The question becomes, are we willing to humble ourselves and serve others as our Lord, King Jesus, was willing to serve us?

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh Abba Father, ... thank You, Lord, … for showing us all the way to serve You, by being a slave for others.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... I pray that all reading here will join me, to humble ourselves and serve others the way You, Lord, have served us.  … Amen
