Daily Berry Patch Devotions in 2014 - Day 33
Devotional Song: Go to this link –
Please take your time to see a video of a robust Welsh chorus singing the old 18th century hymn from their country, Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah , pleading in song for God to be our guide though the morass and messiness of this life.

Highlight Verse – NKJV: John 16: 13 [NKJV] … [The Spirit’s guidance.] …
13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

Reference Passage #1: Proverbs 3: 5-6 … [NKJV] … [Trusting in God’s guidance.] …
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.
Reference Passage #2: 1John 2: 15-16 [NKJV] … [The world is such a foggy place.] …
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
My Journal for Today: In my Our Daily Bread for today, the author relates the following story …
“St. Nicholas Church in Galway, Ireland, has both a long history and an active present. It’s the oldest church in Ireland, and it provides guidance in a very practical way. The church towers over the town, and its steeple is used by ships’ captains as a guide for navigating their way safely into Galway Bay. For centuries, this church has reliably pointed the way home for sailors.”
This, story is much the same for ancient sailors who often used lighthouses, much like the one in the attached photo, to guide their coastal journeys, especially when sailing through foggy weather. As we journey through this murky, darkened world, where Satan and his system, the world, do all they can to get us off God’s course [see 1st John 2: 15-16 above], we need God’s light to shine forth to help us navigate our way [see Prov. 3: 5-6]; and that’s where God’s Spirit, with His ministry of enlightenment, shines forth.
Jesus, in his “Upper Room Discourse” to his confused and fearful Disciples, told them that when He would die and go from them back to heaven, He would send a messenger of light, the Holy Spirit, to guide them when life got foggy and murky (see the highlight verse above - John 16: 13). And all Christians have God’s Spirit as our Godly “GPS,” to guide us – primarily from the lighthouse of God’s word – through the darkness of this world.
I pray that all who read here are following the leading light of Gods’ Spirit from the lighthouse of God’s truth, i.e., His word, to guide us through life.
My Prayer for Today … Lord, shine Your light so that I can avoid the darkened ways of the world to follow You in all my ways. … Amen
