August 16, 2015:  Count Your Blessings

Daily Berry Patch Devotions in 2015 - Day 227

Devotional Song:  … GO TO THIS LINK  … Please take the time to take in a video of images from the movie White Christmas with Bing Crosby singing Count Your Bessings with that lovely version of the Academy Award winning movie … and then ON TO THIS LINK to see/hear Guy Penrod singing the old hymn by the same title, declaring our need to count our blessings amid any trials/tribulations we face in life.

Highlight Passage:  Psalm 25: 1, … 4 [NKJV]  …
7 To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul. … 4 Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths.
… Trusting God for my ways and counting my blessings along the way.
============
Highlight Context – Psalm 25: 1-11 [NKJV] … USE THIS LINK  …
…  Trusting God … thanking God … for deliverance and His blessings.
============

Reference Passage #1 - Psalm 100 [NKJV] … USE THIS LINK
… David’s song of thankfulness.

Reference Passage #2 - Proverbs 3: 5-6 [NKJV] …
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.
… Trusting God is the key to thankfulness and finding our way in life.

Reference Passage #3 - 1 Corinthians 10: 13 [NKJV] …
13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
… No matter what transpires; God will lead us through it. What a blessing!!

Reference Passage #4 - Philippians 4: 6-7 [NIV] …
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
…  Everything to God - with a THANKFUL heart.

Reference Passage #5 - Romans 8: 28 [NIV] …
28 All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and are the called according to His purposes.
…  Yes, … ALL THINGS are really God’s blessings - some we don’t even like.

My Journal for Today:  Today’s Our Daily Bread author, Julie Ackerman Link, referred to some of the great biological and/or scientific discoveries, as the 20th century unfolded, … discoveries finding white blood cells or the discovery of penicillin …, all of which changed the way we looked at our blessings in life. Even things we couldn’t see were blessings from God which helped us fight enemies of life, like bacterial diseases. And author Link’s pointed out; … if things are going bad in our lives, we should still be thankful for even the things we can’t see which God has given us to deal with life’s troubles.

 Today, in meditating on the ODB devotional, my memory was taken back to the romantic scene from that 1954 classic movie, White Christmas, where Bing Crosby was singing about counting his blessings to Rosemary Clooney. And then I was led to another old classic hymn with the same title as the movie song, Count Your Blessings, linked above for any reader with Guy Penrod singing. I would hope that readers here have taken the time to see/hear and meditate on the meaning of both songs.

 Because these modern psalms convey a truth that we all need to remember … that we need to come to God with a thankful heart - ALWAYS - because there are so many things God has wrought or brought into our lives - even things we can’t see - that allow us to realize that we are ALWAYS a blessed people, … just as King David brought out in the psalms documented above. So, let me pray below with a thankful heart this day.

My Prayer Today:  Oh, my Lord, … I am reminded of all the blessings You have brought into my life - even the troubles and things I cannot see - to help me grow closer to You. Thank You, Lord!!!    … Amen
