Dec 17, 2020 … Left Overs for Others

Berry Patch Devotions in 2020 - Day 352

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ...   Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from Matthew West singing … Do Something …  powerfully singing of how we, as Christians, should become the hands and feet of Christ in our time on this earth and “DO SOMETHING” to help others in need.

Giving from the "left-overs"

==============

Highlight Passage:   Leviticus 23:22 [ESV] ...

22 “And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, nor shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the Lord your God.”

  When the people were harvesting from God’s providence, they were to leave the edges of the fields for the poor to glean what they could use for feeding the needy.

Highlight Passage [Context]: …  Leviticus 23:15-22 [ESV] …  USE THIS LINK …

… God, thru Moses, instructs God’s people to leave a portion of their harvest behind for the poor and needy.

==============

Reference Passage: … Deuteronomy 15:11 [ESV] …

11 For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’

  God commands His people (that’s us!) to open our hands wide to help the needy.

Reference Passage: … Proverbs 19:17, 22:9 [ESV] … USE THIS LINK

  God, thru Solomon, instructs us on the importance of giving to the needy.

Reference Passage: … Luke 6:38 [ESV] …

38 … give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

  Jesus teaches on the law of reciprocity … we reap what we sow in giving to others in need.

Reference Passage: …  Acts 20:35 [ESV] …

35 In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

  Paul quotes Jesus on giving to others; … Jesus said it; and we need to live it.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, John Blasé, AT THIS LINK relates the delightful story of his grandfather leaving left over coins on his bedside table (see photo) for his grandkids to find, … illustrating the highlight passage in the Old Testament where God instructed those during harvest of the grain to leave the edges of the harvest for the poor/needy to glean for their needs.

And in this Advent Season, when we think of the Magi bringing gifts to the King of the world, what can we give from our time, talents, and treasures, … maybe just some “left-over” coins, … for the needy to be able to be helped in this season of plenty.

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh Abba Father, ... thank You, Lord, … for giving us our needs, with left-overs to help others.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... I pray that all reading here will join me today, giving from God’s providence to help others in need.   … Amen
