How difficult without a thumb?

… Once adopted into God’s family, we all have a part to function in His body with Christ as the Head.

My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, John Blase, relates the importance of any human body part, such as the thumb, to the completion of any task involving that body part. … The ODB author wrote: Attend any rodeo with riding and roping competition and you’ll see them—competitors with four fingers on one hand and a nub where their thumb should be. It’s a common injury in the sport—a thumb gets caught between a rope on one end and a decent-sized steer pulling on the other, and the thumb is usually the loser. It’s not a career-ending injury, but the absence of a thumb changes things. Without using your thumb, try to brush your teeth or button a shirt or comb your hair or tie your shoes or even eat. That little overlooked member of your body plays a significant role.

Imagine trying to zip up a zipper or tie your shoes (see photo) without your thumb. It can be done, of course, but carrying out such tasks is so much more effective/efficient when our body has both thumbs as God originally intended. And so it is with the Body of Christ, … designed to function with Christ as the head and with each of us, who are functioning parts of His body, doing our part as God intended we do.

And that’s what the group Casting Crowns is singing about in the linked song, … challenging us to do what we are intended to do in Christ’s body … to be His hands and feet and eyes … and yes, even His thumbs. And so, … I pray we reach out in His Name and be what we’re called to be in His Body, the Church, today.
