July 4, 2020 … Always Kind?!

Berry Patch Devotions in 2020 - Day 186

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ...  Please take the time to take in images, song and lyrics from Tim McGraw singing … Humble and Kind … poignantly singing of how we should strive in life to remain humble and kind in all situations.

Lifted up with kindness ...

=============
Highlight Passage : … Luke 7:13 [NLT] ... 13 When the Lord saw her [the grieving mother], his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” He said.
 … Jesus showed kindness to a mother grieving over her lifeless child.
==============
Highlight Passage [context] : … Luke 7:11-17 [NLT] ... USE THIS LINK
… Jesus ALWAYS showed kindness and compassion on those in need, … like the mother giving over her child who had died.
=============

Reference Passage : … Matthew 7:12 [NLT] ...   12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. …”
… Jesus clearly taught that we must be kind to others as we expect kindness from them.

Reference Passage : … Matthew 11:29 [NLT] ...   29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. …”
… The only two qualities that Jesus attributed to Himself were humility and gentleness (or kindness).

Reference Passage : … Ephesians 2:7 [NLT] ...  7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.
… The Apostle Paul exhorted fellow Christians (us) to become examples to others of Christ’s kindness.

Reference Passage : … Philippians 2:3-5 [NLT] ... USE THIS LINK
… To be like Jesus (v. 5) we must be kind and look out for the interests of others … as Jesus did for us.

My Devotional Journal: Today's Our Daily Bread author, Anne Cetas, AT THIS LINK  writes of a man named “Leon” who reached out to create an organization to promote Christlike “kindness,” … impacted when he saw so many homeless in the world.

The ODB author then went on to show that Jesus ALWAYS showed humility and kindness to others, as He did when he raised a grieving mother’s child from the dead [see highlight passage]. Jesus, of course, was consistently showing the virtues of humility and kindness, which were, in fact, the only two character traits that He used in the NT to describe Himself (see Matt. 11:29). And our Lord strongly taught that the only way to reflect God’s law of love was thru HIs “golden rule” of living for others the way we expect them to live for us (see Matt. 7:27).

I’m sure that all Christians reading here with me today desire to become and live more like our Lord (see Eph. 2:7 and Phil. 2:3-5), don’t we? … Therefore, living like Tim McGraw sings in the linked song , … would be the way to go, wouldn’t you think (?), i.e., … trying our best to be like Jesus described Himself, … always being “humble and kind.”

And I’m convicted from my time in God’s word and prayer this morning to try harder today to be like Jesus described Himself … and tomorrow too!!

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh Abba Father, ... thank You, Lord, … for helping me thru Your word to become more like You today.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... I pray, Lord, that all reading here will join me, … to humble ourselves today with Christlike kindness toward others. Amen
