Oct 12, 2020 … Open for Others

Berry Patch Devotions in 2020 - Day 286

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ...    Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from the group Hillsong United singing … All For Love … poignantly leading worship and singing of how we, as Christians, must live to love others as Christ loved us.

Highlight Passage:  Leviticus 19:34 [ESV] ...

34 You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

God charges His people toward treating strangers with love and hospitality.

Reference Passage: …  Matthew 7:12 [ESV] …

12 “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. … “

… Jesus preaches His “golden rule” of the Prophets to others …

Reference Passage: …  John 13:34-35 [ESV] …  USE THIS LINK …

… Jesus’ “law of love” … to show love for one another, demonstrating that we are truly disciples of Christlikeness.

Reference Passage: …  Galatians 5:14 [ESV] …

14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

… The Apostle Paul repeats Jesus’ “law of love,” exhorting fellow Christians to love others as we would love ourselves.

My Devotional Journal: Today's Our Daily Bread author, Amy Boucher Pye, AT THIS LINK  uses a story the author relates of moving to a “foreign” country and being shunned in a church for sitting in a pew [see photo] which was “claimed” by a local member of the church the author, as a “stranger,” attended.

Perhaps other readers have experienced similar rejection, perhaps in a different way, when trying to break thru the feelings of “cliquish ownership” in new church.  But is that the way God would have Christians act?  Well, no, … of course not; … Jesus would certainly rebuke that kind of inhospitable behavior, wouldn’t He?

We are challenged and charged, in the OT as well as the NT (see Scriptures above), … even by Jesus Himself in His “golden rule” (Matt. 7:12) … to show His love by being hospitable and loving to ALL others, … yes, even so-called strangers.  And I pray that we’ll be living out that “Law of Love” today as we encounter others in our very hostile world these days.

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh Abba Father, ... thank You, Lord, … for showing us how to love others as You have loved us.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... I pray that all reading here will join me to live out the “Law of Love,’ by receiving and loving others as our Lord has loved us.  … Amen
