Oct 3, 2020 … Sacrificing for Others

Berry Patch Devotions in 2020 - Day 277

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ...     Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from Tommy Walker singing … Living Sacrifice … poignantly singing of how our lives as Christians should be a living sacrifice to the One Who sacrificed His all for us.

Removing the intruder !!

Highlight Passage:  Ephesians 5:25  [ESV] ...

25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her, …

Jesus was willing to give Himself up for His Bride, the Church, just as we should be willing to be a living sacrifice for others.

Highlight Passage [Context]: …   Ephesians 5:25-33 [ESV] ... USE THIS LINK …

… Paul uses a marriage truth to illustrate our duty as Christians to sacrifice self, on behalf of our Savior, Who was willing to die for His Bride.

Reference Passage: …  John 3:16-17 [ESV] …  USE THIS LINK

… Jesus shows a Pharisee [and us] what God’s love is all about … and that is self sacrifice.

Reference Passage</u>: …  John 15:13 [ESV] …

13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

… Jesus shows His disciples (and us) that love is all about sacrificing self for others.

Reference Passage: …  Romans 12:1 [ESV] …

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

… As Christ sacrificed Himself for us, we must be willing to sacrifice our lives for others.

Reference Passage: …  Philippians 2:3-4 [ESV] …

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

… Paul exhorts fellow Christians to look out after the needs of others before our own.

My Devotional Journal: Today's Our Daily Bread author, Elisa Morgan, AT THIS LINK  uses a story of a husband, sacrificing his sleep to get up early in the morning to get rid of any cockroaches in the kitchen [see photo] so that his wife would not have to encounter something she feared greatly, … the story illustrating how we, as Christians, need to be willing to sacrifice our own interests to help others, especially our loved ones, … just as Jesus was willing to sacrifice Himself for His Bride, the Church [see Scriptures above].

And that, along with the linked song above, really says it all, doesn’t it, … about thinking and acting on the needs of others before our own self-interests?  Certainly that was what Jesus did for us, didn’t He?  So what will we be willing to do today to put the needs of others before our own interests?

I pray we do!

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh Abba Father, ... thank You, Lord, … for giving Your all so that I can give my all for You.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... I pray, Lord, that all reading here will join me today, to give our all to help others before thinking of our own needs and desires first. … Amen
