Sukkot ... the annual Jewish "Festival of Tents"

Highlight Verse[s]: Leviticus 23:42-43 [NLT] ... 42 For seven days you must live outside in little shelters. All native-born Israelites must live in shelters. 43 This will remind each new generation of Israelites that I made their ancestors live in shelters when I rescued them from the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.”

My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, Kirsten Holmberg, uses a gathering of loving friends to illustrate the importance of God’s people coming together to worship His provision, … as with the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles. … The ODB author wrote: Our group of friends reunited for a long weekend together on the shores of a beautiful lake. The days were spent playing in the water and sharing meals, but it was the evening conversations I treasured the most. As darkness fell, our hearts opened to one another with uncommon depth and vulnerability, sharing the pains of faltering marriages and the aftermath of trauma some of our children were enduring. Without glossing over the brokenness of our realities, we pointed one another to God and His faithfulness throughout such extreme difficulties. Those evenings are among the most sacred in my life.

God instituted the “Festival of Tabernacles” [see highlight passage] to bring God’s people together - at least annually - to remember and worship His provision of sustenance and salvation when they wandered in the wilderness. In this time of worship, God’s people come together annually, building tents and dining on His provision (see photo), … and singing of God providing the Lamb of God as His ultimate provision of salvation for His people.

And tho the Jewish Festival, the “Sukkot,” is an annual celebration in their tradition, it should be mirrored by all of God’s people [“the Church”], celebrating in weekly gathering of His provision of the Lamb of God, with our worship and song for the One Who now sits on God’s throne as our “Tabernacle,” having shed His blood for our salvation, and having prepared a place for us to join Him (see John 14:1-4).

So, when we come together as the family of God (see Heb. 10:24-25), let us recognize the Worthy One, … the Lamb of God, … by singing and encouraging one another so that we can remember and celebrate the salvation provided for us by the shedding of His blood.

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh Abba Father, ... thank You, Lord, … for providing for our salvation and preparing a place for us in glory.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... I pray, Lord, that all reading here will join me today, to remember You, to celebrate Your sacrifice for us, and to sing praises to Your Holy Name for providing for our needs and our salvation. Amen
