May 18, 2020 … Finding God’s Peace

Berry Patch Devotions in 2020 - Day 139

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ...  Please take the time to take in images, song and lyrics from the Vagle Brothers singing Peace, Wonderful Peace … poignantly singing of how we, as Christians, can find God’s peace when we’re willing to surrender to His Spirit COMPLETELY in prayer.

Old Simeon finds God's Peace in the baby Jesus

Highlight Verse[s]: Luke 2:29-31 [NLT] ...   29  “Sovereign Lord, now let Your servant die in peace, as You have promised. 30  I have seen Your salvation, 31 which You have prepared for all people.

… Luke conveys the peace that Simeon experienced, via God’s Spirit, when Simeon held Jesus in the Temple with Jesus’ parents.

Reference Passage : … Isaiah 26:3 [NLT] … 3  You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You!
… God, thru Isaiah, gives believers a prescription for pursuing God’s peace … and that it to focus our thoughts on our relationship with Him.

Reference Passage : … Matthew 11:28-30 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK
… Jesus invites anyone to come to Him and give our Lord the opportunity to help us carry our burdens.

Reference Passage : … John 14:1 [NLT] … 1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.
… Jesus invites His troubled Disciples to find more peace by trusting in Him. Our lack of peace often comes when we don’t trust our Lord.

Reference Passage : … Philippians 4:6-7 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK
… God, thru Paul, gives us His prescription for receiving God’s peace and that is thru surrendered and thankful prayer.

Reference Passage : … 1Peter 5:6-7 [NLT] … 6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time He will lift you up in honor. 7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.
… Peter knew to turn his worries over to a caring God.

My Devotional Journal: Today's ODB author, Estera Escobar, relates a true story about former First Lady, Barbara Bush, sharing the peace she had just prior to death in her relationship with Christ. … The ODB author wrote: “I believe in Jesus and He is my Savior, and I have no fear of death,” said Barbara Bush, the wife of former US President George H. W. Bush, to her son before she died. This incredible and confident statement suggests a strong and deep-rooted faith. She experienced God’s gift of peace that comes from knowing Jesus, even when faced with death.

And then the ODB author went on to cite the Bible story of Simeon, who was shown the peace of God when Joseph and Mary brought the baby Jesus into the Temple for circumcision. [see photo] And when Simeon held his Messiah, the old Rabbi received the peace God had promised Simeon earlier. And this is the same peace that God’s word promises to any/all who can - and will - cast their (our) thankful and prayerful trust in our loving/caring God.

And I pray that all reading here find that peace by taking in the linked song and meditating on the Scriptures above, … all of which point to our pursuing - and finding - God’s peace when we can bring our worries, with a thankful heart, in prayer to God, … focusing our trusting hearts on our abiding relationship with King Jesus. But if a reader here is experiencing worry or doubt, I invite you to give it over to our Lord, Who, as God’s word promises above, is there to help us carry our burdens.

My fellow Christian, … let’s let Jesus help us carry our burdens today.

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh Abba Father, ... thank You, Lord, … for always being there to lift me up when my worries burden me.
=============

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... I pray, Lord, that all reading here will join me to take our worries to God today with a humble and surrendered heart. Amen
