February 9, 2022 … Remembering Our Mortality

Berry Patch Devotions in 2021 - Day 40

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ... Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from Matt McChlery singing … Humble Heart … singing poignantly of what all Christians should seek and that is a Christlike and humble heart in serving our God.

Highlight Passage: … James 5:14 [NLT] …

14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.

… God’s truth, thru James, shows Christians to remember the brevity of this life.

29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

… If Christians are looking to have a heart like that of Jesus, … here is how He described Himself.

Highlight Passage [Context]: … Philippians 2:3-8 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK …

… Paul challenges and exhorts fellow Christians (us too!) to live like Jesus, who completely humbled Himself, even unto death on a cross, to honor the wishes of His heavenly Father.

Highlight Passage [Context]: … 1Peter 5:5-6 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK

… Peter also quotes the truth of Proverbs 3:34 to avoid the dangers of pride and to do all we can to humbly live out our short lives.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, Winn Collier, … AT THIS LINK … tells of ancient Roman historians who about Roman generals being honored in Rome with a glorious victory parade, … but on their chariot was a slave who whispered into the ear of the general, … “Momento mori !!” … which means, … “Remember, you will die!” … (see photo)

And God’s word repetitively (see Scriptures above) warns and exhorts Christians to remember the shortness of our mortality as we strive to live and serve our Lord as Christ humbly served His Heavenly Father in His short life on earth.

So, how are we doing in our short life tenure? Are we striving for a humble, … Christlike, … attitude of humility (see Matt 11:29 or Phil 2:5- 8) to serve others as Christ served us? Or are we forgetting that we could die tomorrow … or even today?

So, my slave of reality, God’s Spirit, is whispering in my ear, … “Momento mori!”

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh, Abba Father, thank You, King Jesus, … for reminding me of my mortality so that I can live more like You, Lord, today.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... . I pray that all reading here will join me, … to remember our mortality in living more humbly for You, Lord! … Amen
