Jan 2, 2021 … A Strong Foundation

Berry Patch Devotions in 2020 - Day 2

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ... Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from the group Selah singing … Firm Foundation … poignantly singing of how we as Christians must establish a firm foundation for our lives in our relationship with Christ.

Big Thompson Colorado flood - 1976

Highlight Passage: Luke 6:47-48 [ESV] ...

47 Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.

Jesus’ parable shows that those who build their (our) lives on the solid rock of God’s word will withstand the storms of life.

God prophecies, thru Isaiah, that those who build their lives on the truth of God’s word will have a sure foundation for life.

Reference Passage: … John 15:7-11 [ESV] … USE THIS LINK …

Jesus tells His disciples that when/if they (we) abide in Him we will be His disciples and abound in His love.

Reference Passage: … 1Corinthians 3:10-11 [ESV] …

10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. 11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Paul exhorted fellow Christians to lay the foundation of our lives in a close relationship with Christ.

Reference Passage: … Ephesians 2:10, 20 [ESV] … USE THIS LINK …

Paul shows fellow Christians that we must build our lives (i.e., our works) on Christ as the cornerstone for our discipleship.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, John Blase, AT THIS LINK use the story of the 1976 Big Thompson flood in Colorado … where the roads which washed away (see photo) were those who didn’t have a strong concrete foundation to illustrate how we must build a strong spiritual foundation in our relationship with Christ to withstand the storms of this life.

As we move into a new year, having experienced all the rigors and “storms” of 2020, how strong is our spiritual roadwork? And the linked song and the Scriptures above show us that we need to have a firm foundation of understanding and obedience in our relationship with Christ to be prepared as the storms of life come our way in 2021.

Are we ready for those storms; because we know they’re going to come, don’t we? I’m praying that all reading here have laid a strong foundation by knowing, understanding, and following God’s word; because that is the strong foundation we’ll need when the storms of life come our way.

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh Abba Father, ... thank You, Lord, … for Your strong foundation of empowering grace upon which we can build our lives.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... I pray that all reading here will join me, to take inventory and build up a stronger foundation to face the storms of life ahead. … Amen
