August 17, 2021 … Following God’s Word …

Berry Patch Devotions in 2021 - Day 229

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ... Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from The Gettys, singing Speak O Lord … Poignantly singing of how we, as Christ’s disciples, must know and follow God’s truth found in His Holy Word.

==============

Highlight Passage: Jeremiah 15:16 [NLT] …

16 When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear Your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies.

Jeremiah “devoured” God’s word and it gave him the power to deal with God’s discipline of His sinful peoples.

Highlight Passage [Context]: … Jeremiah 15:15-21 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK …

 James, the half-brother of Jesus, writing to beleaguered Christians that faith, without works, is not really faith.

==============

Reference Passage: Joshua 1:8 [NLT] …

Study this Book of Instruction [i.e., God’s word] continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

God gives Joshua [and us] a prescription for success in following God’s will.

Reference Passage: … Psalms 119:105 [NLT] …

 105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and the light for my path.

… Paul teaches the reality that our faith in Christ is lived out by living in the flesh the way Jesus lived when He was flesh - for others.

Reference Passage: … Proverbs 3:5-6 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK ...

… God, thru Solomon, charges all true believers to trust Him in all that He says [in His word] to lead us, … avoiding following our own way.

Reference Passage : Matthew 4:4 [NLT] …

But Jesus told him [Satan, tempting Jesus in the wilderness] , “No! The Scriptures say, … ’People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

… When Satan tempts Jesus in the wilderness, the Lord quotes from Deuteronomy 8:3 that we should devour God’s word for our Spiritual sustenance so as to rely on God’s word for our spiritual direction in life.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, Patricia Raybon AT THIS LINK … writes of Billy Graham, early in his surrender to God to ministry, making the decision to trust and follow God’s word as the one and ONLY true way to lead himself in life and to lead others to Him.

And that’s what God’s word leads and commands us to do in life. Moses declared it (see Deut. 8:3, the passage Jesus quoted to Satan when the Lord was tempted by the Devil in the wilderness (see Matt. 4:4). It’s what God showed Joshua on how to be successful in following God’s will (see Joshua 1:8). And that’s the way, as Solomon declared in (see Prov. 3:5-6), we, who follow the Lord, must trust in Him and follow His way - not our own.

And that’s my prayer for all reading with me here … that we devour and know God’s word; and then diligently follow it, rather than falling prey to our feelings and all the distracting ways the world or Satan would use to deter us from follow God’s truth.

My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh, Abba Father, thank You, King Jesus, … for giving me Your word as my perfect “GPS” to follow in life.

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... . I pray that all reading here will join me, … to commit to consuming and following God’s word as we travel the roads of life. … Amen
