June 1, 2022 … Giving It Forward

Berry Patch Devotions in 2021 - Day 152

Devotional Song: ... GO TO THIS LINK ...   … Please take the time to take in song and lyrics from Brandon Heath singing … Give Me Your Eyes … powerfully singing a prayer for God to give him more discernment to help others by seeing their needs more clearly with a desire to help by giving more of himself.

Coffee Drive Thru ...

==============

Highlight Passage [Context]: …  Matthew 6:4 [NLT] …

Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”

… Jesus' sermon on giving anonymously out of love.

Highlight Passage [Context]: … Matthew 6:1-4 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK …

… Jesus challenges His followers to give anonymously out of love, not for recognition of others.   ===============

Reference Passage: … Mark 12:41-44 [NLT] … USE THIS LINK

… Jesus shows His disciples that they (and we) must give like the poor widow… whose two coins were worth far more than those given by the wealthy because they were given out of love and sacrifice, not for recognition of others.

Reference Passage: …  Luke 6:38 [NLT] …

38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”

… God’s promise of His blessing when giving is done out of love … generously and sacrificially.

Reference Passage: …  2Corinthians 9:7 [NLT] …

You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

… Paul shows fellow Christians what Christlike giving is like with the reward of God loving a person who gives cheerfully and generously.

My Devotional JournalToday's Our Daily Bread author, Poh Xochitl Dixon … AT THIS LINK  tells of a man named Glen who made it a practice to pay for a coffee and a muffin for the driver behind him in the coffee drive-thru lane (see photo) every morning.  And one day he learned that his act of generosity caused the man who received the gift, being so touched by Glen’s selfless gift, decided to abort his plan to commit suicide.

And if you’ve take in the linked song and meditated on the Scriptures above, especially those from Jesus instructing His followers about giving, I don’t think I need to write in depth here about the point being made by this ODB entry.

Personally, today I’m challenged to look more deeply at when and where I can do more, by giving to others the way our Lord has given to us.  What do you think we could do today to give of ourselves to help someone else without them knowing anything about where the gift came from?   Let’s go do something nice for someone today!

>My THANKFULNESS: ... Oh, Abba Father, thank You, King Jesus, …for giving Your all for me.  Help me to help someone today. .

My Prayer Today: Oh Abba Father, ... King Jesus, ... . I pray that all reading here will join me, …  to seek out someone to help today … quietly, generously, and sacrificially.     Amen
